Text 1
W: Fairly warm this morning, isn't it?
M: Yes, the sun is shining, but the wind is strong. The radio warned of heavy rain in two hours.
Text 2
W: You should have prepared your speech for the meeting.
M: Yes, I know. But how could I prepare with the meeting date fixed so soon?
Text 3
W: Do you get enough money for your trip to Russia?
M: Yeah. I have 1, 000 dollars now, and my brother said he can lend me 500 dollars.
W: So considerate of him.
Text 4
M: I found too much screen time pulled all the color out of real life. I couldn't see the point of anything else. Luckily, it was all past.
W: Yes. It ate up so much time! Getting it under control has been such a weight off my mind!
Text 5
M: Do you know University of Cambridge received about 15,000 applications for entry and University of Oxford about 13,000 this October?
W: Yes, but how many of them will survive the interview is still in doubt.
M: Cambridge alone rejected more than 5,000 students last year. This shows the difficulty of competition.
Text 6
W: The biggest mistake I made was leaving college last year and not completing my education. So, I am thinking of going back to school.
M: School? To study what?
W: Sociology. I'm interested in the development of society and social behaviour.
M: Cool. Is it what you studied years ago?
W: No, I majored in chemistry then.
Text 7
W: Charlie, you look different. Did you lose some weight?
M: My weight hasn't changed for at least ten years.
W: Then it must be the new coat you're wearing. It's a really nice coat.
M: I wore this coat last winter and the winter before that. Do we really work in the same office for the last five years, Jenny?
W: Sorry, Charlie, you know I'm not good at noticing things sometimes. Oh, I know it. You're with glasses now. How did you become nearsighted?
M: I'm not. I'm just wearing them in a decorative way. Now I look knowledgeable, don't I?
Text 8
W: Oliver, our teacher wants us to write a report on how many students in college speak more than one language.
M: We can ask for that information from the college office first. On the first day here, we put information about our second language on the registration form.
W: I'll make a survey there. Who do I need to see? Is it Miss Wright?
M: No, she works in the student service office. Miss Smith works in the college office.
W: Is it next door to the IT service office where Mr. Black works?
M: No, Mr. Black is in the student administration office on the second floor. For the college office, you need to go to the floor above.
W: Oh, OK. I know where it is now.
M: Great. I'm going to have some coffee. Do you want to join me?
W: I'd like to, but I need to go to the library. The math exam is just around the corner.
Text 9
M: Amy, I heard you entered the Young Chef competition. What was the rule?
W: Well, in the first stage, everyone need hand in a four-course menu. We had limited money and had to show our character in the dishes. We also had to make sure nothing was thrown away — that was hard.
M: And you got through to the second stage!
W: Right! That included cooking a dish for the judges. We prepared our dishes in the kitchen of an actual restaurant.
M: Did everything go as planned?
W: Not exactly! I was relieved to find no one was making the dishes like mine. But as I was about to cook, I realized the pizza stone I wanted to cook my pizza on was in my mom's car, and she'd gone home! Anyway, the air fryer did the job just as well. However, I broke into a sweat watching the judges taste the food. Their expression gave nothing away so I had no idea whether they liked it. But it proved that they loved my dish and I won!
M: Congratulations!

M: Good morning, and welcome to our program. Today, we have pop star Margie Flynn joining us in the studio. Her hit single, Hold My Heart, has been at the top of the charts since it was published earlier this month. Margie grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and has been a big fan of country music since she was a small child. When Margie was only five years old, her father bought her the first guitar. At six, Margie had already written and performed three songs. In high school, Margie spent most of her time on her music, leaving little time for sports or a social life. However, she always did her schoolwork and always got good grades. Margie graduated from high school at 17 and went on to attend The Juilliard School in New York. Margie has recently completed her studies and is now on tour in the United States. At 22, Margie Flynn is one of America's youngest and most promising talents. We're honored to have her in the studio with us today. Hello, Margie.
