M: When will dinner be served?

W:A few minutes after take-off. But I can get you something to drink now if you like.

M: That's very kind of you. I'd like a glass of water, please.

Text2

M: Hi Rosalie, did you hear about the fire drills next week?

W: Yeah. I can't believe they scheduled ours during our lunch break. They need to reschedule our lunch break, or change the fire drill time to 1-2 p.m.

Text3

M: I was just going through the sample we received from the printer.

W: Do you mean the Psychology 101 textbook that we will release on March 31st?

M: Right. But we have a problem. The chart on page 234 was printed upside down.

Text4

M: I hope you've enjoyed your stay with us.

W: Yes, it was lovely, but I had to pay £90. Last time I only paid £80. Hotel prices generally rise during the peak season.

M: Yes, I'm sorry, Madam. But that is actually a 10% discount off our normal price as you're a regular guest.

Text5

W: I don't really understand why you called Professor Higgins. He has nothing to do with our department and project.

M: Well, we want to understand what impact an invention like this would have on the environment. And that's his area of expertise.

Text6

M: You've been writing for a long time, but only just had a book published. How did that happen?

W: It was all by accident, really. My book sales were so slow that I was sure my publisher regretted taking me on.

M: What happened then?

W: I kept on with my usual schedule — I kept to a strict timetable every day — and then a TV director wandered into a shop, saw my book lying there looking very lonely, and started reading it. He was stuck for ideas for a new children's TV play and thought my story could be adapted to fit the requirements exactly. And that was it!

W: Hello. My name is Annabel Christiansen. I'm here to check in for the 5:40 p.m. flight to London. I have my passport and ticket here.

M: I'm sorry. You've arrived too late, Ms. Christiansen. Check-in for that flight closed 20 minutes ago. There won't be enough time for you to reach the gate before take-off.

W: Oh, no. I was worried this was going to happen, because my taxi was stuck in a long line on the way here. Are there any other flights today that I can take instead?

M:Yes, we still have seats available on the one that leaves at 10:30 p.m. For a $100 fee, I can update your reservation and issue you another ticket.

Text8

W: Excuse me. We're doing a survey on the free time habits of British people. Can I ask you a few questions?

M: Sure.

W: Thanks. Right, first question. How often do you go to a bar or a pub?

M: Oh, not very often. I don't drink, but I sometimes go with friends.

W: OK. Do you engage in any physical activities?

M: Yes, I go to the local swimming pool every other day.

W: And how often do you go to the theater?

M: Hardly ever. About once a year, perhaps.

W: OK. What about holidays?

M: I normally have two holidays a year. One in summer and one around the New Year. Sometimes I visit my aunt.Usually I go somewhere in Asia, like Thailand, India. I seldom stay at home.

W: OK, that's all. Thanks a lot.

Text9

M: Come in.

W: Thanks.

M: Right. We need to discuss some of the questions raised at the last meeting.

W: Yes, there were a lot of questions about computer systems and working hours.

M: We'll talk about them later. What I'm very worried about at the moment, though, is how some staff are working. I'm not happy with so long hours it takes to produce reports. Peter Jones, for instance. The report on his visit to Paris was two weeks late. It's not as though they're long reports — they should only take a short time to write.

W: I'll certainly warn Peter about that, but I think it is, in fact, a question of staff training. We need to do the training on time management.

M: I agree, but getting consultants in to do it costs money. It will be cheaper to use one of our own staff. Have we got anyone who could do it?

W: Laura Williams has some management training experience.
