M: Thank you!

W: I'm wondering if you'd be interested in playing music at the shopping center on a Saturday afternoon sometime. The date can be flexible.

M: Sure. We can play on the first Saturday of March. Where exactly will we be performing?

M: You're right. We're a start-up company, founded one year ago. We've developed a voice recognition software program. It understands spoken commands and can complete tasks.

W: Ah, I use a program like that. So how's your program different from all the others?

M: It's the most advanced digital assistant on the market. Here's a brochure. If you turn to the second page, there's an outline of the program's advanced features.

W: Dr. Twain, my parents are concerned that I will not be able to get a well-paid job with a degree in tourism. The reason that I want to study the course is that I have a great interest in the subject. What should I do?

M: Charlotte, I understand your parents' worries, but the tourism industry is growing fast, and there are many well-paid jobs, like managing hotels, planning events, or working as a travel agent. Maybe you can talk to your parents about these job options to help them feel better.

W: Got it.

M: You could also tell them about your strengths that would enable you to succeed in this field, such as time management ability, language talent, and so forth. What are your strengths?

W: Well, I'm good at interacting with all kinds of people — I always know how to talk with them and make them feel comfortable.

M: Hello, Martina. You said on the phone that you weren't happy with your accommodation and were thinking of changing. May I ask what the problem is exactly?

W: To be honest, there's more than one problem. The main problem is that the accommodation is farther than I imagined from the university.

M: I see... and the other problem or problems?

W: The other problem is that the landlady is quite a heavy smoker and I'm afraid that I find it quite unpleasant.

M: I'm sorry about that. Weren't you given the option of accommodation with smokers or non-smokers?

W: I'm afraid that's really my fault. However, a friend told me that sometimes accommodation becomes available in midterm because some people leave the university or change their places. So I come to see if there is any accommodation available.

M: I see. We do get some accommodation available now. I'll show you some places later. Just give me a minute to find your details on the computer.

W: Yes, of course.

M:Well, that's about it for this month's edition of Book Club. Now it's time for me to tell you about our super new contest. And I have to say, you won't believe the prize we've got for you this month. Normally, we award bestsellers, signed books, and free membership cards to the winners, but this month, we're giving you the chance to win your own computer. This is a contest you absolutely can't miss, right? So, what do you have to do?

All you have to do is participate in our short story contest. We want you to write a short story with a maximum length of 1,500 words. The rules are very simple, and we want lots of submissions. You need to write a short detective story, using your own ideas. But, everything that happens in your story must be in the future. So, just let your imagination run wild.

Send your entries to me, Joy Jones, at the usual address. Put your name, address, telephone number and don't forget, your age, at the end of your story. Oh, and I forgot to say, for this contest there's an age limit. You must be under eighteen when you enter. Make sure you email your story by the 8th of March. So good luck, good writing and good reading until next month.
