M: We're going to stay with my cousins tomorrow.
W: Are you all ready to go?
M: Almost. Dad has to pick up the train tickets and as soon as I get in after lessons, I'll have to help make sandwiches for the journey.
W: I couldn't find my cellphone for four days. I looked everywhere. I never take my phone to school, but I even looked in my classroom desk!
M: Bad luck!
W: It was actually in the back of my dad's car. I saw it when he gave me a lift to school this morning.
M: Maybe it fell out of your bag!
W: Did I tell you my brother's working at Scooter — that new designer clothes place in town? You know, the one that sells the really original jeans and T-shirts.
M: I'm quite jealous! I'd like to work there as a shop assistant myself.
W: Well, in fact, he wanted to do that too, but they only needed a security guard for the shop. So he was given that job instead.
W: Fabulous Smith Company. I am not available at the moment. Please leave a message.
M: Hi, Amanda. This is Brian. I'm calling to let you know that I might be a little late for the meeting. They've cancelled my train. I tried to get a cab, but the queue at the station was so long. It'll be quicker to rush home and get my own car rather than wait for a taxi. So I'll see you soon, hopefully.
M: Where's this afternoon's meeting?
W: Well, it was supposed to be upstairs, but surely we're not going to have it now because John's off sick.
M: Oh? I've heard we're going to carry on as planned.
W: I can't believe that. Without John? Oh well, I'm ready for it... I'm doing my presentation and I think everyone will like it.

W: Hi, Frankie, you went on snowboarding vacation last month? How was it?
M: The first few days were great! The snow was perfect and I was learning some great new tricks.
W: Don't tell me you hit a tree and had to stop.
M: That's what happens to some people. In my case, it was a lot more boring. My stomach found it hard to get used to the local food, so I had to spend a few days in bed. Then my sister borrowed my board and managed to drop it from the ski lift. It didn't break, but we never got it back.
W: Oh, no!
M: This year's Radio Camp is going to be at our radio station on 102 Golden Street. Our popular three-week summer camps are already getting full! We will start on June 25th, but if you can't come then, there is another camp starting on July 16th, and the last one is on August 6th. At camp, we'll teach you how to use radio equipment and write a play for young actors. This summer you won't learn how to write about the news. You'll meet the local journalist, Luke Berry, and a very well-known band who has just finished a world tour! We'll tell who it is when you join. If you book before midnight, you'll get a discount! $476 is the usual price, but now it's half-price. To get this special offer, visit our website.
M: I read this great newspaper the other day.
W: A newspaper? Isn't it full of dull stuff?
M: It is aimed at our age group actually, so it presents the news in a way that's easy to understand. So it's a good way to find out what's going on in the world. It's interactive too.
W: Really?
M: Yeah! You can write reports for it and they include the best ones in the paper. Cool?
W: If you like writing, I suppose so. Not a talent of mine.
M: So you don't bother with the news then.
W: I wouldn't say that. I do follow it just as long as it doesn't seem like schoolwork too much.
M: Oh, there you are!
W: Hi. Did you get the classes you wanted?
M: Not really. My physics lectures are 8 to 9 in the morning on Tuesday and Thursday. Those are going to be killers. I'll need two alarm clocks. And I get a Friday lab from 2 to 4. I can't get an earlier one because it conflicts with my biology courses.
W: Those Friday classes sure ruin a four-day week.
M: Yeah. You still have time before you register the courses?
W: There are still a few minutes left till ten.
M: I've heard that there's a real shortage of dorm space this year.
W: How come? The student body doesn't increase, I think.
M: They pulled down Dormitory A to put up a new one — but it won't be finished until the end of December.
W: Too bad. I don't want to live outside the campus anyway. You know, it's economical and convenient to live right here.
M: Yeah. But we could share the money for an apartment — and think of the parties we could throw! You can't have a real party in a dorm room.
W: Yeah. That's a very good point. Let's keep our eyes open for a place outside school for next year, then.
M: Lin, you're what's called a vlogger — you put videos that you've made online for people to watch, in your case about the environment. How did you learn to do that?
W: One of my old school friends was already a vlogger, but her videos were about travel, so she wasn't really at home enough to help. I'm still at university and my department was running these courses for helping people become vloggers, so I attended those courses. There's so much stuff about it online, but I just found it confusing.
M: Why did you choose to focus on the environment issues?
W: It's just something that I've believed for ages is important and I think little is being done. It's not connected to what I'm studying at university, so it was unlikely I got advice from any of my classmates.
M: How did you feel when your videos first became successful?
W: I was expecting to only have a few people watching regularly for years. I couldn't believe how wrong I was about this, even though I knew that many felt strongly about the subject.
M: What's your latest video about?
W: I've just finished a series encouraging more people to use buses and trains rather than cars, and I'll be moving on to how and why the world is becoming warmer in the few new videos. The most popular ones so far gave people ideas on how to reuse things they usually throw away, like glass and plastic.
M: Thanks, Lin!
