How many insects can you count in one hour?That is the question being asked by a group of environmentalists outside of Berlin's Natural History Museum. The Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union, or NABU, has organized the “insect summer” project, asking regular people to help count the insects they see within 10 meters.The project is not like precise scientific observations. However, the discoveries of regular people can give professional researchers unexpected insights.  

Laura Breitkreuz is an expert on insects and biodiversity at NABU. She said this project was to help scientists get information for their study on the effects of climate change. They have seen that a few insects that normally occur only in the south are spreading further north. In recent years, the number of some insects has dropped due to human causes. The project not only helps the scientists, but helps people respect the role that insects play in their daily lives.
