Text 1
M: Alice, are you joining the school band this term?
W: Yes, I signed up yesterday. I love playing music and the teacher says we'll perform at the city theatre next month.
M: That sounds exciting.
Text 2
W: Dear, it's ten to twelve. Let's find a restaurant to have lunch.
M: Okay, how about Happy Pizza? It's only a ten-minute walk from here.
W: Great! Let's go now.
Text 3
W: Hello! We've come to meet with Claire Bell. We were scheduled to meet in ten minutes.
M: Are you sure? She's with another client now.
W: Definitely! Here's the text message confirming the time.
Text 4
M: Hi, May! I seldom see you here. You always make sandwiches at home and eat them at your desk.
W: Yeah. But I didn't have time to make any this morning. So what would you recommend from today's menu?
Text 5
W: Tom, are you going to talk with Allen's parents?
M: Yes. Allen is doing well in his studies. And he gets on well with his classmates. But he is always late.
W: Yeah, I caught him coming late for my class several times.
Text 6
M: Amy, I heard you and your mother didn't buy anything during your back-to-school shopping.
W: No, we don't share the same taste in clothes. She thought all the clothes in this shop were not fashionable.
M: Well, you'll need some warm clothes before winter sets in. Oh, look at this cool jacket!
W: That's a nice one, but it's torn in the back. Look!
Text 7
W: We don't usually get warm sunshine in late autumn.
M: I know. It's been lovely the last few days, but I hear changes on the way. The weather forecasters are saying there's a chance of snow as well as frost at night. I'd better check the heating system.
W: I'll do the same. We also need to bring in the plants from our gardens. They might get damaged by the frost.
M: I hadn't thought of that. I've got a lot of pots, so I'd better make a start.
W: I can come and help you if you want. I haven't got very far to come after all.
M: That's very kind of you. Don't forget to wear your coat.

M: So, Grace, what was the biggest difficulty in managing your time at university?
W: Well, when I started college, I couldn't believe how much free time I had. Compared with high school, I only had to go to a couple of classes a day in college! It was wonderful! But then halfway through the first term, I realized I was supposed to be studying the rest of the time!
M: So, what advice would you give to new college students?
W: Well, professors expect you to work a lot outside of class. So use a planner. It's also important to know what time is the best for you to study. Like, after two years, I finally realized I don't do my best work late in the evening! So now I try to schedule my classes for the afternoon and the evening, and study the rest of the day on my own. Oh, and one more thing. Take breaks! Don't think you can study effectively for six hours straight!
Text 9
M: Lily, how was your holiday? I went to Paris — so crowded! The Eiffel Tower line took 3 hours!
W: Hello, Jim. I did “alternative travel” this time. I canceled the trip to Spain and visited a small village in Portugal. Quiet beaches, light traffic and cheap homemade food.
M: But isn't it boring? No famous landmarks?
W: We hiked through the woods and learned pottery from locals. And the village market had unique handmade crafts. My scarf only cost 5 euros. Plus, the local people were most friendly — they even invited us for dinner!
M: Weren't you worried about getting lost?
W: Map apps just worked fine!
M: What about accommodation?
W: We stayed in a family-run guest house. Clean, comfortable, and only 30 euros a night!
M: OK. I think I won't miss out on “alternative travel” next time.

W: Hello everyone. I'm the director of The Jeeves School. This morning I'm going to go through some information to help you all make sure your time here goes well. So, first of all, lateness. We have quite a strict policy. If you are more than 10 minutes late, we ask you to wait until the break to join the class, so the rest of the class can work better. There isn't an exact time for the break, but it tends to be around 10:30, and it's usually half an hour. There's a coffee machine in the student common room downstairs. But the machine has a habit of breaking down, so if you find it's not working, please tell Jenny at the front desk. There are toilets on the second floor and ground floor. These are regularly cleaned so we don't tend to have any problems with them. As well as the courses, we have a great social program. Activities are open to everyone and they tend to fill up quickly. So check the noticeboard in the common room for new events. You can book with Kit, our social program organizer. And finally, as a rule, we have a free barbecue on the first Friday of every month. That's all from me. Any questions?
