W: Did you know that? They are planning to build a waste recycling plant in our village.
M: What? That's unacceptable. I am going to file a complaint to the committee.
Text 2
M: Jane, wait a second. I'm going with you.
W: Okay. I'm going to Professor Wang's calligraphy class.
M: I know. It's in the chemistry building, right? My biology class is in the same building.
Text 3
M: Excuse me, could you please spare me some time? I'm doing a quick survey on the quality of our products and services.
W: Sorry, I'm in a hurry. I'm supposed to be in class at 9:00 and I'm already ten minutes late now.

W: Jim, what is the speed of our car now?
M: 80 kilometers an hour.
W: The sign says the maximum speed is 70 kilometers an hour on this road.
M: Thanks for pointing that out.

W: I'd like to eat some noodles. Do you remember the thick ones we had on our trip to China?
M: Yes, they were good, although I liked the dumplings there most. Right now, though, I'd just like a sandwich.
W: You should have got one while we were shopping.
Text 6
M: Have you applied for the field trip?
W: Not yet, but I'm definitely going to do it tomorrow.
M: Make sure you submit the application on time. It's due by this Friday.
W: Thanks. Actually, I've never been to the Natural Science Museum before.
M: Me, neither. I just checked out their website page and a temporary exhibition called Wisdom of Plants caught my interest.
W: Cool, but I'm more excited that they're inviting well-known researchers to give talks on life and wellness.
M: Indeed, I hope we're lucky enough to have some discussions after that.

M: Good morning! This is City Bus Company.
W: Good morning! I wonder if you could help me. I've lost my handbag.
M: Oh, when did it happen? Are you sure you've lost it on our bus?
W: Well, yesterday afternoon I went home from work on the No. 22 bus. When I got off the bus, I left my handbag on the bus.
M: Can you describe it?
W: Well, it's a brown fur handbag. There is a bank card and some change in it.
M: I am afraid we haven't got anything like that. Perhaps someone took it away when you got off the bus. But we'll try our best to look for it for you.
W: Thank you very much!

M: Hey, Connie! Good to see you back in the office!
W: Great to see you again!
M: Well, you were gone for two weeks. I'm still not clear why you left.
W: Oh, I went to do some volunteer work in mountain areas.
M: So how did you even get into it?
W: A college friend put me in touch with a local organization. You know, a lot of young people are looking for ways to give back to society.
M: Great! But how did you get our manager to approve of the leave of absence? He's strict about time off.
W: As for Anderson, he grew up in a remote area and he really sees value in this kind of project. This experience will be of benefit to my current work as well.
M: Yeah. It must be interesting but tiring. How can I participate?
W: Oh, I'm sending you an email about the organization.
M: Great! I can't wait to read it.

W: Doctor Spencer, thanks for joining our program today.
M: It's my pleasure.
W: So, what exactly are scientists at your company doing?
M: We're developing a tool to help those who lost their sight because of an accident.
W: So, tell us about the tool you're working on now.
M: Well, it uses a computer chip in special glasses. We start by putting the chip in a blind person's eyes. The chip is very, very small of course. And the glasses have a very small video camera inside.
W: So, how did the computer chip and glasses work together?
M: Well, a blind person puts on the glasses and looks at something. For example, this pen. First, the video camera in the glasses takes a picture of the pen. Then the camera sends the picture to the computer chip in the person's eyes.
W: And then the person can see the pen.
M: Exactly, this whole process happens very quickly.
W: Wow! Will a blind person be able to see as well as a normal one with this tool?
M: No. They won't have perfect vision, but they will be able to see many things. This tool is still new, but for many of the people in our study, it's changed their lives.

M: Good afternoon! I would like to tell you about Madame Tussaud's Museum before taking you around. First, let me give you some information about the tickets. Well, our most popular ticket is £39. With that, you can also visit three more London's most popular top attractions. The standard price that you have to pay when visiting four attractions is £55. Madame Tussaud's Museum has a long history. It was started by a lady who worked for the French king. She was an art teacher. Here you can see life-sized figures of the most famous people in the world, like the Queen of England. Madame Tussaud's Museum is not only in London. The second Madame Tussaud's Museum opened in Amsterdam, and now there are museums in Las Vegas, Hollywood and New York. In 2007, the third American Madame Tussaud's Museum opened in Washington. During your visit, you can buy some gifts from the museum shop, and if anybody is hungry, there is a cafe and some great eating places on Baker Street. The museum is open seven days a week and you can see the times in the guidebook of the museum, which I will give you in a minute.
