第8单元 B卷

Text 1

W: Jane's car was under repair yesterday, so she had to take the bus home.

M: If I had seen her on my way home, I would have given her a ride.

Text 2

W: Jack, you're all sweaty. Freshen up — it's almost time for breakfast.

M: Sure, just let me finish 20 more push-ups. Then I'll take a shower.

Text 3

M: Do you give salt away for free or something? It felt like every dish was overloaded with it.

W: I'm really sorry about that. How about we give you 10% off your meal today?

Text 4

M: We've made up our minds to move, even though our apartment is close to my workplace and the kids' school.

W: I get it. With three growing children, your current home isn't spacious enough for your family.

Text 5

W: Mark, do you know how traditional Chinese painting is done?

M: Yes. It's usually done with a brush covered in black or colored ink. The most popular things for paintings are paper and silk.

W: Have you seen any such paintings?

M: Yes, I've seen some in a museum.

Text 6

W: Why do you want to work with us at Camp Elizabeth?

M: Your company has a good reputation. I know some people who have been to your camps and they say everything was well organized.

W: Good. What qualities do you think are important for the job?

M: I think you must be patient and very careful.

W: Okay. Any questions for me?

M: Could you tell me whether you provide rooms for people working at the camp?

W: Yes. Most monitors have their own rooms, but some will have to share.

Text 7

W: Good evening, sir. How can I help you?

M: Hi, I just went to the bank and realized my bag was gone, so I'm here to ask if I left it here.

W: Could you describe your bag?

M: It's a white shoulder bag with a fresh coffee spot on the side — I spilled coffee at the café before the movie.

W: What is inside the bag?

M: There are my students' papers and teaching materials. I was preparing for tomorrow's classes while waiting for the movie.

W: Which seat did you sit in?

M: I was in Theater 3, last row, seat 12 A.

W: Our cleaner found a bag right there. Just go to the lost and found office near the main entrance.

M: Thank you so much!

Text 8

W: Leo, when did you start your tree-planting project?

M: Four years ago. I had just graduated from college and worked for a year before I quit my job and came back to my hometown.

W: Were your parents supportive?

M: They are now, but back then, they were angry, saying I hadn't thought it through.

W: The journey must have been tough.

M: You bet! No money. Terrible working conditions. Two years ago, only a few of my 500 trees survived after a sandstorm. But anyway, I'm glad I didn't quit.

W: You took part in a reality show last year, right?

M: Yes, many people reached out after it aired. I even built a desert home base for volunteers.

W: Many young people are considering unconventional careers these days. What would you like to say to them?

M: Thinking only creates problems, but doing brings answers.

Text 9

W: Gregg, could you tell us about where and how you write?

M: Well, I write in a small room at the top of my house. There's no sound, no music, no traffic, and that's what I need to get a sense that my words are filling something. And I don't use a computer, just any kind of pen as it's too unpleasant to lose a special one; plus I do look out of the window a lot and drink cup after cup of tea.

W: Then how about telling us about your next book?

M: Well, it's a book for teenagers as I've never tried writing one before.

W: Please give us some more details.

M: Well, it's set about 100 years ago, just like the last one. It's about children in the rural area who are sent off from their farms to work in a plant at a young age, and the hard times they have there. But like all my historical novels, it is based on certain real events and has a serious message. But there are lighter moments too.

W: That sounds incredibly fascinating.
