Text 1

W: I hate having to wear a school uniform. I'd prefer to choose what I wear.

M: I don't mind it. It makes everyone equal and saves us a lot of time in the morning.

Text 2

W: I'm starving. Let's try making pizza with chicken left over from yesterday. Do we have any cheese and tomatoes?

M: Let me see. Looks like we've finished all the cheese and there are no tomatoes either.

Text 3

W: The printer ran out of ink. We also need to buy some paper. Can we print the report tomorrow?

M: I'll get some ink on the way home and check if the store has paper. The deadline's tight, but maybe we can manage.

Text 4

M: I have so much spare time these days. Maybe I should take up a hobby.

W: You are very creative. Have you ever thought about painting?

M: That's a good idea. Or photography perhaps.

Text 5

W: Excuse me, I'm new to the university and I'm looking for the Newton Building.

M: Oh, the Newton Building? Just continue walking until you reach the lake, walk around the lake and then you'll see the building.

Text 6

M: My school bag is so heavy today, Mom.

W: Well, can't you leave some things at home?

M: Not really. I need my football kit for my sports class this afternoon and I really need my laptop, because I have to prepare a presentation for history class.

W: Could you do that on a computer in the library?

M: That's a good idea, Mom.

W: Well, at least your violin lesson isn't until tomorrow, or you'd really have a lot to carry. Just a reminder, don't leave home without your violin tomorrow.

Text 7

W: What inspired you to become an artist, Colm?

M: My father was an oil painting artist. He used to work in the living room. One day when I was six, I put some paint on one of his paintings when he was out. At first he was mad, but then he laughed. That's when he knew I had a feeling for art.

W: How do you describe your work?

M: My work speaks to the 5-year-olds in all of us. Though we become experienced when we grow up, we are always five years old at heart. We all want to have fun.

W: That's a unique idea.

Text 8

W: Li Feng, have you heard of the DK English for Everyone series?

M: Not really. What's that?

W: Well, It's a great self-study tool covering all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It uses DK's huge image library, making learning more visual, a key reason for its popularity among English learners.

M: Sounds interesting, but is it suitable for high school students like me?

W: Absolutely. It meets the needs of modern learners with busy schedules. The visual approach helps you understand natural English expressions better by showing them in real-life contexts.

M: Great! I've been struggling with grammar lately, so how can I be sure it will help me?

W: Well, the grammar guide in this series covers 120 core grammar points with clear explanations, and professors from top universities highly recommend it.

Text 9

W: Welcome back to Education Today. Our guest is Dr Lee, an expert in children's education. Dr Lee, let's talk about community gardening projects for kids. What makes them valuable?

M: Kids learn plant biology and ecology in a hands-on way. Watching seeds grow is more effective than learning from textbooks. They mainly teach responsibility.

W: How are these projects connected with school subjects?

M: Math, through measuring growth, art, through making garden posters. They're also a bridge to life skills. For example, growing plants together teaches kids teamwork, and kids learn everyone has a role — planting, watering or weeding.

W: Where are these gardening activities usually held?

M: Mostly in local community gardens, but sometimes in schoolyards and even in shared neighborhood spaces.

W: Some kids dislike getting dirty. Any tips for engaging them in the projects?

M: Let them plant a garden. Use games like “Name That Plant” or share stories, like how tomatoes become tomato sauce. Ownership builds interest.

Text 10

M: First, let me just thank all the fans in the stands here as well as those watching at home for your support. Not just today, but throughout my whole career, there have been a lot of memorable moments and I can't imagine any of them without you. I would like to have won my last game, but I gave it my best shot. Of course I have to say that Carlston played an incredible match. It was definitely the toughest match of my career, but it was an honor to play against such a talented player. I have to admit that it was a really difficult tournament for me. I got injured very early in the tournament. After that, it was a real struggle to play through to the final with a knee injury. I just told myself to focus on playing my best for as long as possible. Fortunately, I made it to the final and got to play against Carlston, so when I look back on this, I think I'm just going to be proud. I did leave everything out there on the court.
