M: How about this one? It is really excellent to buy this for Jasmine.

W: It’s a beautiful toy for girls. But we might buy her a storybook. A bag is also a good idea.

W: Has the car been repaired?

M: Yes, we’d expected the repairs to cost us about $300, but they charged us twice as much.

W: That’s better! I thought three times!

M: Are you ready for your final match next week? It is vital to earn the honour for your class.

W: Some of us are injured, but all of us have a strong will anyway.

W: I want to give you something to take home.

M: Thank you. Oh, it’s a toy panda.

W: Yes, I know many people outside China love pandas very much, including you Americans, and people in France.

W: Hey, Jack. How was your painting class this term?

M: Not too bad.

W: What class was your favorite then?

M: I took a business communication class last year and it was wonderful. But I want to change it for German. I don’t know if I would call it my favorite, but it ranks up there.

W: Oh! It’s really terrible. The man in white is bleeding.

M: I bet it is a nose-to-tail accident, because the front of the red car is wholly damaged, and the black car is completely damaged at the back.

W: I think so. Let’s give injured people first aid and then take them to the nearest hospital.

M: Should we call the ambulance for help?

W: Let’s see first.

M: Look, there is a police car coming.

W: It’s good then. We can turn to the policemen.

听下面一段对话,回答第8至第10三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。

W: All these days we are always so busy with the project. But now we are going to have our short holiday.

M: Yes. Where are you going to spend it?

W: I’d like to go to Canada to celebrate the New Year with my aunt. I like the cold weather. It makes me feel cool. How about you?

M: I will go to New Zealand to have a sun bath.

W: Really? Mary is studying there. Will you visit her?

M: Sure. What shall I do for you?

W: Oh, remember to give my best wishes to her.

M: Yes, I will. May you have a nice holiday!

听下面一段对话,回答第11至第14四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。

M: Good morning. May I help you?

W: Yes, do you have any flights to Sydney next Tuesday afternoon?

M: One moment, please... Yes. There’s a flight at 2:45 pm, one at 4:00 pm and one at 5:15 pm.

W: That’s fine. Could you tell me how much the flight costs?

M: Economy, business class or first-class ticket?

W: Economy, please.

M: That would be €346.

W: OK. I will make a reservation. The 2:45 pm flight, please.

M: How would you like to pay, madam? Online or send a person?

W: Neither. Can I pay at the checkin desk when I pick up my ticket?

M: Yes, do confirm this reservation at least two hours before the departure time.

W: I see. Thank you!

W: I’m Linda Rica. I’m a newcomer. Nice to meet you.

M: It seems to me that we have met somewhere before.

W: Yes, perhaps in the department store or somewhere.

M: Pleased to meet you. Let me introduce myself. I’m John Smith, in charge of this office.

W: I moved from my previous job to this one a week ago. Today is my first day in this office.

M: Why did you quit that job?

W: I moved to this area recently, so I have to change my job. What about you?

M: I have worked here for five years and I’ve got used to everything. It’s just like my home. If you have any questions, please ask me.

W: Thank you. Are you free this weekend?

M: What for?

W: I’d like to invite you to have lunch with me and we can have a chat.

M: All right.

听下面一段独白,回答第18至第20三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。

The US has already lost more than a third of the native languages and the remaining 192 are classed by the UNESCO as ranging between unsafe and extinct. Fred Nahwooksy, a national leader in the movement to save endangered native American languages, said they needed more funding and more effort to return these languages to everyday use. He also said they were making progress, but that money needed to be spent on making the languages alive again, not just documenting them. Progress is being made through schools where students hear and use only a certain language, because if you teach children when they are young, that language will stay with them as adults and that’s the future. Such schools have become a model in Hawaii, but the islanders’ local language is still classed by the UNESCO as critically endangered because only about 1,000 people speak it. The decline in the American Indian languages has historical roots: In the mid-19th century, the US government adopted a policy of Americanizing Indian children by removing them from their homes and culture. Within a few generations, most forgot their native tongues. Television also speeds up the extinction of native languages. Why? It has brought English into homes, and pushed out traditional storytelling and family time together.
