M: Oh, you came to school so early. I hear you are moving into a new house.
W: Yes. The former next-door neighbor always plays the piano late into the night, which makes me crazy.
W: I’ve taken my washing in. I’m set for a day of grey clouds and showers.
M: The weather forecast says it will clear up by midday. I’ll be out in the park barbecuing with my friends in the afternoon.
M: I’m sorry to tell you that this book was due the day before yesterday.
W: Oh, do I have to pay a fine for that?
M: Of course.
W: Why is the road closed to traffic?
M: Because of a building fire close to the B403 High Street. Police have carried out traffic control here.
W: That’s terrible. Then I’ll take another road.
W: I’ve been meaning to talk to you about John.
M: What’s the problem?
W: I don’t want to be out of line, but he’s very difficult to work with. He gives me the cold shoulder all the time and doesn’t like the way I am doing things.

M: Hello, I’m looking for some winter clothes for my daughter.
W: Oh, it’s the perfect time for your purchase in our shop. Everything for winter is 20% off: coats, sweaters, trousers...
M: I think my daughter may like the sweater in the shop window. But I don’t think the green color fits her. Do you have one in other colors?
W: We’ve got a red one, too.
M: Oh, yes, I like this one. How much is it?
W: Let me have a look. Hmm, it’s $ 110 originally, but you can get the discount today.
M: Great. Can I pay by credit card?
W: Sure.
听下面一段对话,回答第8至第9两个小题。现在你有10秒钟的时间阅读这两个小题。
W: Come on, Brian. It’s time to go.
M: Just a minute. I just have to close the shop.
W: OK. But we have to hurry. Rush hours begin early on Fridays, you know.
M: Yes. By the way, can we go and pick up my sister Barbara?
W: Sure. Is she going to the basketball game, too?
M: Yeah. She wants to take some pictures.
W: I didn’t know Barbara was interested in photography.
M: Well, she’d like to work for a newspaper after graduating.
W: But I think it might be difficult for her to succeed. There are a lot of photographers out there.
M: My parents share your point of view. But I think she has a gift for that. If you look at her album, you’ll know how she will make it.
听下面一段对话,回答第10至第12三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
W: May I help you?
M: Yes. I would like to buy some flowers for my wife. To be honest, I really can’t understand why ladies like flowers and the more, the better.
W: Today is the Qiqiao Festival. That must be why you want to buy some flowers.
M: Not exactly. I get flowers also for her birthday. Besides, for all kinds of festivals.
W: But not on April Fools’ Day, right?
M: Ha-ha, right. Oh, I also want some flowers for my mother. Tomorrow is her birthday.
W: How about these? Purple seems popular with mothers.
M: Not with mine. Do you have any other color?
W: How about red or pink ones? They are fresh and bright.
M: All right! I will take these red ones, and then I’ll go to a supermarket for a purse.
W: There is one just across from the bakery, just next to the bank. Here you are! Please come again.
M: Thanks! Bye!
听下面一段对话,回答第13至第16四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
W: Good morning.
M: Good morning, madam. How can I be of service to you today?
W: I was wondering about your summer holiday offers.
M: There are two I would strongly recommend. The first is an Australia holiday package that covers flights and accommodation in a 4-star hotel for 8 days. The price includes guided tours and a rental car — that’s a pretty good deal.
W: What about meals?
M: The only thing you don’t get is your meals, but a lot of people prefer to buy the food of their choice.
W: That’s a good choice, but you mentioned there is an alternative?
M: Yes. How about the Netherlands? It’s open from August 10th to 25th.
W: How long for?
M: One night less for about the same price. Besides, it’s an accommodation-only deal.
W: Er, I don’t think I like that. You see, we’re planning on taking our children along.
M: Well, the tour provider in Amsterdam takes families into account and offers special activities.
W: Oh, that’s the kind of attitude we’d approve of. I’ll choose this one.
听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
You may be surprised to learn that potato chips in Japan are very expensive. But it is true. The price of potato chips there is 6 times higher than their normal price. This is after the country’s two main potato chip makers stopped sales due to a severe potato shortage. Storms and floods in Japan’s main potato growing region last year caused the worst harvest in more than three decades. Local media reports state that the two companies are canceling almost 50 products.
A company spokesman said that as a matter of fact they didn’t know for sure when they would be able to restart. A large number of Japanese people are buying potato chips in large quantities because they are worried that there are not enough potato chips available, and as a result, many supermarket shelves are now bare. Japanese laws limit the number of imported potatoes that can be used in Japanese-made products. Japan says that the fear of disease is its main reason to block fresh potato imports. It still only allows potatoes that come from selected US states. This is only at certain times and on condition that the potatoes are processed at the factories which are based near Japanese ports.
But global warming has raised the possibility that Japan’s own produce could be seriously affected by rare weather events more often.
