W: Is it raining outside, Bob?
M: Is it raining? Can't you see that I'm almost wet to the skin?
W: I'm going to apply for a scholarship when I finish senior high school. I intend to get a degree in Art. How about you?

M: I'd like to exchange this dictionary for another copy. Some of the pages are missing.
W: I'm sorry to hear that. Let me call the manager and you can talk to him about it.
M: It doesn't make any sense to go home this weekend.
W: Yes. Especially because you will have to take the midterm exam next Monday.

M: Thank you. I am very glad to hear that.
W: I like your new overcoat. It looks really expensive.Where did you get it — in that brand coat shop in the mall?
M: Well, no, I didn't. I got it in the market, where there are many clothes, from shirts to skirts, from jackets to coats. I can't afford a brand coat. After all, I am just an office clerk.
W: You are too modest. Everyone knows your family has a lot of money.
M: I don't want to get money from them. I must depend on myself.

M: Hi, Carina. Long time no see. Not partying every night, studying instead, huh?
W: Well, not recently! Actually, I don't have any money to party these days.
M: Hey, I thought you had a good part-time job at the mall.
W: I do. I work about twenty hours a week, and the pay's not bad, nine dollars and fifty cents an hour. And my parents send me five hundred dollars a month, too. But... I only manage to save about ten dollars a month. It's a drag!
M: It sounds like you have a budget problem. Simple, either work more or spend less.
W: I'm definitely not going to work more. Ah, you work in a bank now, and I think you are the best person to help me make a budget!

W: Can I help you, Sir?
M: I'm here for the backpack you announced several minutes ago.
W: OK. Take a seat, Sir. First of all, can you show me your ID card please?
M: Sure. Here you are.
W: OK. Could you please tell me what your backpack looks like?
M: Of course. It's a soft leather one, you know, not a sports one that looks childish.
W: OK. Can you tell me the distinguishing features of this backpack?
M: Oh, it's a backpack with a logo on the back.
W: OK. Can you name the items in it?
M: Well, all the gifts for my family, you know, two pairs of sports shoes for my children and a bottle of perfume for my wife.
W: OK, Sir. I'm sure it's your bag. Thank you for your cooperation. You can have it now.
M: Thank you so much. You are really responsible.

听下面一段对话,回答第13至第16四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
W: Hi, Peter. How are you feeling today?
M: A bit better. I haven't felt sick to my stomach for a week since you changed my pills.
W: That's good to hear. Your condition didn't seem all that serious, so I didn't think you needed such expensive pills. Your test result came out this morning.
M: It's about time. Is it good news or bad?
W: I guess it's a bit of both. Which do you want first?
M: Let's get the bad news over with.
W: OK. It looks like you're going to need an operation on your legs. After the operation you're going to have to stay off your feet for at least 3 weeks. That means no soccer.
M: I was afraid you were going to say that.
W: Now for the good news. The test shows that you haven't got cancer. We're going to have the operation to take the diseased part out just to be on the safe side.
M: Wow, that's a load off my mind. Thanks, doctor.
W: Don't get too excited. We're still going to do a few blood tests just to rule out a few things before the operation.
M: Things like what? Cancer?
W: Actually, I'm thinking more about the food you eat.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
Welcome to Brighton. Brighton is one of the most original and creative cities in England, and, unsurprisingly, it is one of the most popular destinations for a weekend break. With its famous nightlife, wide range of restaurants and diverse shops in the lanes, Brighton has everything. Knowing where to go and which hotels are available can be vital to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one.
Brighton Beach is perhaps what Brighton is most famous for and probably the first place to visit. Unsurprisingly, there are a wide range of hotels all along the seafront, but with their sea views and prime locations, the prices there are higher. For slightly cheaper options you simply have to venture a little further along the seafront. There are a number of slightly smaller and cheaper hotels towards Kemptown.
In Brighton you can't miss visiting the North Laine, where there are many clothes shops. There are also many places to sit down and have a drink. It is a unique shopping and dining experience.
The city is small and the most attractions are within walking distance of one another, and for those that aren't, there are a number of bus companies running reliable services in the city. Even the farthest hotels around Kemptown are within 25 minutes' walk of the beach, so wherever you stay, you are going to be able to visit all of the attractions.
