现在你有5秒钟的时间阅读第1小题的有关内容。

W: What should I do when there are too many things to do?

M: When someone is busy, it is important to spend some time organizing the work. Many people just try to work faster, but that doesn't really help. Planning and working smartly is the best answer when you are busy.

M: How about hamburgers for dinner?

W: Oh, I'm sick of junk food. Let's do something really special. Why don't we try that new French restaurant?

M: How are you getting to the airport?

W: Well, I haven't really got any choice — I have to take the bus. My car is at the garage getting repaired and taking a taxi is just too expensive.

M: It's your turn, Mary. How do you like your parents?

W: I'd like to talk about my father. He is very kind, hardworking and humorous. In a word, I can't speak too highly of him.

M: Aren't you going to see the film? They say it's well worth seeing.

W: I'm afraid I can't make it today. I am not feeling myself today.

听下面一段对话,回答第6至第7两个小题。现在你有10秒钟的时间阅读这两个小题。

W: I can't wait to go skiing tomorrow.

M: I know. It's going to be so much fun.

W: I always get excited the day before skiing.

M: I used to be like that. But I go skiing so often that I don't get excited any more.

W: I only go skiing twice a year, so it's a real treat for me.

M: That makes sense.

W: What things make you excited?

M: Whenever I go to Las Vegas, I get really excited.

W: Oh... that makes me excited too!

M: Looks like anything fun makes you excited.

听下面一段对话,回答第8至第9两个小题。现在你有10秒钟的时间阅读这两个小题。

M: Now, Wendy, did you get a good view of the accident?

W: Oh, yes. I was riding home on my bike and going past the bank building and I saw it all quite clearly.

M: Do you know what time it was?

W: Yes, I checked my watch. It was 2:45 p.m. exactly.

M: Good. Now, how fast was the truck moving?

W: Well, quite slowly — about 10 miles an hour. It was coming up the York Road. I suppose the truck driver knew the lights were going to change. But they were still red when he went over them.

M: I see. What about the car? Was it also driving slowly?

W: It was coming along Union Street about 50 miles per hour. It was a blue Toyota. The driver stopped his car when he saw the truck crossing the street.

M: Did you see what color his traffic lights were?

W: Yes, they changed to yellow just before he crossed the street.

M: It'll be Saturday tomorrow. What are you going to do?

W: Nicholas and I are going to have a picnic on the hill. Would you like to go there with us?

M: I'm sorry, but I'm going to help my uncle do the farming on his farm. There is always too much work.

W: But you can't do it all. I have never heard you mentioned farm work before.

M: Perhaps it's easy to learn to do the work. And my uncle can teach me, too. Besides, I enjoy working on the farm. The air is fresh, and the flowers are sweet there. Everything is beautiful.

W: It sounds wonderful. I hope to have a chance to do that. How will you go there?

M: By bus. It will take me only an hour to get to the farm. I used to go there by bike with my father. But I will go there by bus by myself tomorrow.

W: Take care while you're on the farm, or you'll hurt yourself.

M: Thanks. I'll be careful.

听下面一段对话,回答第13至第16四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。

W: Our topic today is on language loss in the world.First we'll talk about what the situation is, and then we'll give some examples. Allan, do you want to begin?

M: OK. First, there is some background on the situation. There are actually different views on how many languages exist in the world today. Most experts say that there are somewhere between 6,000 and 6,800 languages still in use. Unfortunately many of these languages are in danger of disappearing. Now, it's hard to find an exact number, but some people believe that as many as half of the languages still in use could be lost before long. Here is a more specific example of how languages are being lost. An article in the magazine Nature in 2003 states that there are 46 different people around the world who are the last remaining speakers of their languages.

W: Wow. Imagine if you were the only speaker of your language left.

M: Yes. Now, one of the problems is that it's very difficult to get complete agreement on actual language numbers and that it's also hard to find agreement on the number of languages that are at the risk of disappearing.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。

M: The World Health Organization is worried that 1.1 billion teenagers and people in their twenties and early thirties are damaging their hearing by listening to loud music. It says nearly half the young people risk hearing loss because of the "unsafe use" of personal music players, including smart phones. Loud music in nightclubs, bars and at sporting events also increase the risk. The WHO recommends a safe limit of listening to music for just one hour a day. The WHO director for injury prevention, Dr. Etienne Krug, told the media that hearing loss is easily preventable. Dr. Krug said keeping the volume down and limiting the use of personal audio devices to less than one hour a day would save people's hearing a lot.

However, he also said, "Even an hour can be too much if the volume is too loud." Ralph Holme, a researcher, explained how loud noise can damage ears. He said, "Loud sounds damage your hearing by killing off thousands of little hair cells in the inner ear. The cells are very fragile and they get damaged and die due to loud sounds for too long." He warned,  "The problem is that they don't grow back and the ear can no longer hear sounds."
