M: I was going to buy a magazine but I changed my mind.

W: So what did you choose? A storybook?

M: I got a dictionary.

 

W: My husband and I have been kept waiting here for nearly an hour for our meal!

M: I am sorry. Our staff have been kept unusually busy. We have so many guests today. I will see to it personally.

 

M: Hello, Adventure Club? Are you accepting applications by fax?

W: No. You can send it by e-mail or by post.

M: Oh, I'd like the former.

 

W: Mr. Robert, Mr. James from the marketing department would like to listen to your opinion on this plan.

M: I'm meeting my doctor. Put the documents about the plan in my bag, would you please? I'll see him during my lunchtime.

 

M: My tooth is killing me. The cold weather seems to make it worse. I'm afraid I'll have to go to the dentist.

W: Yes, you must. Cold weather often makes toothache worse.

W: Where did you go last weekend, John?

M: I had a picnic with my family in the countryside. I also lay down on the grass and looked at the clouds in the blue sky. It was the happiest time of my life. How about you? Did you have a good weekend?

W: Yeah. I visited an Italian city. There are no tall buildings or heavy traffic.

M: Why?

W: It's an ancient city with a history of two thousand years. The Italians don't want to change the ancient city into a modern one.

M: Boys and girls, our school is an international language college. As you see, there are a lot of buildings on campus. The college used to have four departments — English, French, German and Russian. But there is now also a Chinese department. At the moment we're outside the English department, which is the largest department in the college. There are over 750 students in each grade and we have 350 teachers, including 150 professors in the English department. These teachers are from different countries, mainly from the USA and Canada, with a few from England and Australia. You'll have all your classes here in this building and all the professors from Canada are working here, so you can talk with them in your spare time. Now, let's walk over to the main library, which is the largest building in the college, just next to the English department building. Ah, this is the main library. OK, let's come to the next building — the dining hall, where you will have your meals every day.
