W: What seems to be the trouble?
M: I’ve been coughing badly for a couple of days. And I also have a slight headache.
W: I’m sorry, sir. The chicken soup was sold out five minutes ago. Why don’t you try this week’s specials: fish head soup or tomato beef soup ?
M: Hmm, I don’t like fish. So I’d have the latter.
M: Facing so much pressure — parents’ expectations, the highly competitive job market, and so on, I’m totally stressed out. What should I do?
W: Maybe you can go and see a psychologist. They’ll tell you what to do about that.
W: You always look energetic. When do you usually get up?
M: On workdays I get up early, at about 6:30. I have to get ready for the day. But on weekends, I tend to sleep until 7:30 or 8.
W: This dust cleaner will be your first choice. Its small size makes it easy to carry and its upright design means that you don’t need to bend over to clean the floor.
M: Sounds great. But is it specially designed for the elderly?

W: Jim, I heard you went to San Diego. Is that true?
M: Yes, we just got back this morning.
W: How long did you stay there?
M: We were only there for one day, so we didn’t do too much. We did some shopping in the morning and tried boating in the afternoon. At night we walked around the city with some friends.
W: Did you take any pictures?
M: Yes. This is a photo of my wife Lisa in the boat, and this is one of our daughter Emily — it was taken at the train station before we left.
W: Bank of America. Shelley speaking, how can I help?
M: I’m a foreign tourist in this city and unfortunately I’ve lost my international credit card.
W: Could I have your name, please? And do you know your card number?
M: My name is Mike Kowalski. I don’t remember the number.
W: OK. Do you have your passport with you, Mr. Kowalski? Or do you by any chance know the number?
M: I don’t have it to hand, but I know the number. It’s AB114699. Can you do something, like stopping the card?
W: That’s just what I’ve done, Mr. Kowalski. Your card has been stopped temporarily.
M: Thanks. But what should I do if I need cash?
W: You can go to any branch of our bank and request the emergency assistance service.
M: Thank you so much. I’ll go to the nearest branch tomorrow and draw cash there.
M: Sarah, you talked about competing in a horse race. Have you done any other sports on horseback?
W: Well, not a sport. It’s my previous job actually. I was responsible for taking people on horseback into the mountains.
M: That was your job?
W: Yes. We would work with beginners who had never ridden horses before, and show them how to lead the horses and ride them. And then we’d go up into the mountains and stay there for two or four hours.
M: Well, that sounds great.
W: Yeah, it was really fun. Sometimes we would walk along the edges of the mountains, and some people would get nervous and scream. But the horses mostly ignored the people on their backs.
M: Really?
W: The horses, in fact, knew the path that they were taking. But going too fast or taking a different way is dangerous indeed.
M: Have you met wild animals in the mountains?
W: Yeah. The area we went through is famous for deer. So we often saw lots of deer. And it is said that there are also monkeys and elephants. But I never saw them.
M: Hello, I’m interested in the marketing course you’re offering.
W: Well, marketing is one of the most difficult courses for students in our school. Why do you want to take this course?
M: I’m going to graduate next year and I’d like to get a job as a salesman. And some professional knowledge about marketing is necessary for me.
W: You’re right. Have you got any work experience in this field?
M: Yes. I worked as a part-time salesman last summer.
W: OK. What do you expect to learn from this course? It covers product policy, channels of distribution, communication and pricing to satisfy the needs of customers.
M: Personally, how to communicate with others is what I take the most interest in.
W: I see. Then I’m sure this course will offer what you need.
M: Great. When will we meet for the class?
W: It’s on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.
M: OK. Do I have opportunities to meet my teachers after class?
W: Yes. That’s every Friday afternoon, two to four.
Today is Change A Pet’s Life Day, and our society decides to put animals at the shelter up for adoption in honor of the day. Our society provides care, comfort and love for animals in need. On average, we find homes for over 8,000 animals a year. We hope the free adoptions can help more animals find their forever homes. In 2020, we helped over 12,000 pets through our pet food bank. We gave away more than 10,000 pounds of food and there is an increase compared with the previous year. The need for pet food is also increasing. Therefore, in today’s event, all you need to do is to bring a bag of pet food for our pet food bank. And then you can take a pet home without even a small amount of money. However, what should be noted is that since we’re not in the season for young cats, we have more adult cats than young ones. But what we have the most are actually dogs. Now, before we pay a visit to the shelter, we can take several minutes to see the documentary we shot last year.
