M: Yes. I bought it in a new bookshop. It was priced at $40. But finally the owner agreed to cut prices. So I took it.

M: Oh, your new dress looks beautiful. Did you buy it online or from a physical store?

W: Neither. I made it on my own. I ordered a fashion design magazine and learned from it.

W: Your daughter is tall and plays volleyball well. Does she want to be a professional player, just like your wife?

M: No. She wants to study Chinese and be a teacher or a translator. Playing volleyball is just her hobby.

M: Hello, Miss Young. This is Sean. I woke up this morning with a fever, so I can't go to work or attend the meeting today.

W:Oh, poor Sean. That's OK. Just take care of yourself.

W: Congratulations on winning the first prize of this invention contest.

M: Thanks, Jenny. Actually, I was really surprised. Many people's inventions are much better than mine.

W: Maybe. But yours is easy to use. You completely deserve it!

W: Oh, I had a tiring weekend too. My parents went to visit my grandma, so I had to stay at home to look after my little brother, Bob.

M: Hi...what will you do with those things?

W: I will throw them away. I don't need them anymore.

M: Don't throw the electronic waste casually! It's harmful to our environment.

W: You mean I should keep these useless cell phones in my house?

M: I don't say that. But do you know that every year more than 10,000 computer monitors and cell phones are abandoned? Electronic waste is poisonous and pollutes the soil.

W: Oh, I see. So what should I do with the cell phones then?

M: You can sell them to a recycling plant.

W: Good idea. Thanks for your suggestion.

W: Excuse me, is Mr. Jackson here?

M: Yes, I am Jackson.

W: Mr. Jackson, I am a reporter from the school TV station.I know you are a successful teacher and quite popular among the students. Do you mind if I ask you some questions?

M: Of course not. Please take a seat.

W: Thanks. Mr. Jackson, do you often give homework to your students after class?

M: It depends. Usually they have it two times every week. And three times on some occasions.

W: Do you think it is necessary for your students to have a lot of homework and exams?

M: I don't think so. They have too many learning tasks at school. Rest and relaxation is more important for them after school, especially on weekends. I've always been trying to help my students keep a balance between study and relaxation.

W: I can't agree more. You are a great teacher. By the way, what do you do in your free time?

M: I love writing articles and I'm also a football player. My team won first place in our city tournament last year.

W: Congratulations! Mr. Jackson, thank you for your time.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。

As many people are used to doing their jobs from home, many businesses in America are thinking about permitting employees to continue to do so even after the workplaces reopen. Meanwhile, lots of people are considering leaving large cities and living in smaller towns.

A company called Common is working with these small towns to design co-living buildings that will appeal to these people. Matt Micksin, a local director of Common, says he has found that people want apartment buildings that include office space outside of the individual homes. So, Common has begun to design co-living complexes that include business centers, small offices and other workspaces. And these new low-cost spaces will provide both "comfort" and "flexibility".

Common asked some officers of America's small cities to suggest some development areas for the complexes. Some of the cities fell into decline following the leaving of a major employer or the closure of a big factory, so they want people to come back. And they have advantages. Micksin says places like Bentonville and Ogden are attractive to people who like outdoor activities. Bentonville has waters for fishing and forests for hiking, and Ogden is close to mountains where people are able to ski. Common hopes the building on the first site will begin late this year.
