Text 1
M: Linda, would you like some candies?
W: No, don't try to tempt me. Chocolate and cookies make me gain weight, and I have to slim down.
Text 2
M: Can I help you, madam?
W: Yes. I'd like to choose a sweater for my son. But I don't know what boys will like. Can you give me some suggestions?
M: Sure, madam. But may I know how old he is?
Text 3
W: Alright, I'll buy this laptop. Can I pay using a credit card or through the Internet?
M: Sorry, you can only pay in cash. We'll also offer you a laptop bag and a mouse for free.
Text 4
M: Can you imagine a boat sinking into the river?
W: That would be terrible.
M: Sure. I have an experience like that.
Text 5
M: How's your trip going here?
W: I'm enjoying myself, but Shanghai is much warmer than London.
Text 6
W: Have you made up your mind about not going back to your hometown after graduation? Where else would you go?
M: I would try to land a job in Beijing.
W: Why?
M: Many people say more development opportunities can be found there.
W: That's true. Beijing is the political, economic and cultural center of the country.
M: And there're higher salaries there.
W: Well, that's true, but living expenses are also higher in big cities.
M: I've considered that. I'll share an apartment with others, and the cost of living won't be too much for only one person.
W: A good idea. Good luck!
Text 7
M: Why don't you start searching for a job? Your classmates have all begun.
W: I want something more challenging.
M: Like what?
W: To run my own business and be my own boss.
M: Why? Students of your major can easily land a job nowadays.
W: Well, I hate being controlled by others.
M: I don't mean to discourage you, but do you know it is hard for a new business? Are you fully prepared?
W: Sure I am. To avoid risk, I'll start by opening a small online store in order to make the first bucket of gold of my life.
M: That's down-to-earth. The profits may be low, but you don't have to put in too much money.
W: Yeah, I can work at home, saving the cost of renting an office.
Text 8
M: You are an early bird, Linda. What do you do in the morning then?
W: Take exercise. The morning hours are the most precious period within a day. Seize the time and do something useful.
M: So, you choose to spend it on bodybuilding. Where do you exercise?
W: I used to exercise in the Central Park, but now I run along the Fifth Street to the Black Bamboo Park. Admission is free there. Then I start my activities.
M: Do you do the same exercises every day?
W: No, I've kept a balance between various exercises. I change them over the weekdays. Sometimes, when I find myself in a bad state, I will simply walk about in the park.
M: Why don't you just stay in bed when you feel unfit for exercising?
W: It's not easy to keep a good habit, you know. I fear that if I fail to get up early one day, I may find it still more difficult to rise early the next day.
M: You're right. I should develop a good habit of getting up early too.
Text 9
M: Susan, good evening. Why are you so dressed up?
W: I am on my way out to a New Year's banquet. How do I look? Is my make-up OK?
M: You look great. Your make-up is perfect.
W: Do you think I should wear a different dress?
M: No, the one you have on looks pretty, especially with your hair like that.
W: Thanks for saying that. Do you have any ideas which necklace I should wear?
M: With that dress I'd say the white necklace is better than the blue one, even better than the yellow one.
W: Thanks for helping out. Now that I'm ready, what are you doing tonight?
M: Not much, just a house party with some friends.
W: Sounds fun. Anyone I know?
M: Yeah, most of the people are from our office.
W: A pity I will miss a good time.
M: Oh, well, there will always be one sometime.
