Text 1
W: Did you go to the football match last Sunday?
M: Yes. It was supposed to start at 9:30, but it was delayed for fifteen minutes.?
Text 2
W: May I help you, sir?
M: Yes, I seem to have lost my room key.
W: In that case, you need to go to the front desk to get another one.
Text 3
M: Good afternoon, may I speak to Mr. Smith, please? This is Bill Anderson from the Central Bank.
W: Mr. Anderson, my husband isn't at home. I can give you his office number if you'd like to call him at work.
Text 4
W: I don't know why you want to shoot me cooking in the kitchen.
M: I have told you. It's for a cooking website I'm working for. Now, step a bit to the right. A bit more. There. Lift your head up.
W: OK. Whatever you say.
Text 5
M: Hey, Nicole. You don't look good. What happened?
W: It's just that new designer. He's hopeless. We had a three-hour meeting and nothing got solved.
Text 6
W: Harry, have you been using my iPod again?
M: Alice! Don't get so strict.
W: And my new headphones, too?
M: Well, OK, I was going to put them back. Anyway, what's the big deal?
W: The big deal is that it is so disrespectful to take things without asking.
M: Well, how about you? You're always borrowing my sweaters, and jumpers and stuff.
W: Yeah, well, that's different.
M: I don't think so.
Text 7
M: Hi, little sister. How's your first week at school?
W: Well, I have to say that dormitory life has some major disadvantages.
M: Like what?
W: I'm upset to have to share a bathroom and showers with thirty other people. And some of my neighbors party on school nights. The other night, I had my first exam. I was trying to get a good night's sleep, but it was impossible. They were so noisy.
M: Yeah, that sure sounds like dorm life! That's why I moved out the second year.
W: I think I will, too.
Text 8
W: May I help you, sir?
M: Yes, please. I'm looking for a cotton shirt.
W: Any particular colour?
M: Not really.
W: How about this one?
M: I like the design, but don't particularly care for the colour. Do you have that in other colours?
W: Well, they come in white, pale yellow, purple, red and green. Will a white one do?
M: Yes. I prefer white, and may I see a pale yellow one as well?
W: Of course. Let's see... White... Pale yellow. Here you are, sir.
Text 9
W: Hey, welcome to Berlin! It's great to see you again.
M: Yeah, good to see you too! Have you been waiting here at the station long?
W: Only fifteen minutes. But let's get out of here and go to my apartment! How are you feeling after that long bus ride?
M: Ah, it wasn't too bad. It was only nineteen hours.
W: That's crazy! You could have flown here from London for 60 euros, and it would only have taken an hour and a half. Was it really worth all that time, just to save a bit of money?
M: Well, it was a pretty uncomfortable ride, to be honest. The bus started to smell till the end of the trip, and there was a guy next to me who was breathing really loudly while he was sleeping. But the reason I took the bus was because it's more environmentally friendly than flying.
W: I think it's great that you want to help the environment. But you look so exhausted right now. I just think you should be a little more careful with your health.
M: Well, I wasn't expecting the bus to be so unpleasant. But you're right. Next time I visit you, I'll probably fly.

Welcome back to Modern Parenting. We've already talked about being open and honest with your kids, but there is one thing that good parents do: read to your kids. One study from Harvard University found that the number of books in the home was the biggest factor related to success in school, more than the education or income of the parents! The best part of reading is that it gives parents a chance to communicate with their children. And it's suggested that parents read books to their kids as early as possible. Family trips to the library or the bookstore are also a fun activity. So parents, if you're wondering what to do with your kids tonight, remember: all you need is a good book! This is Lesley, on 105.7 FM, saying good night.
