Text 1
M: It's too hot, just like an oven. Can you help me open the window and let some fresh air in?
W: Maybe I can turn on the air conditioner. Wait a minute.?
Text 2
M: I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have quarreled with you, even though you broke my glasses. I was just worried about my interview tomorrow.
W: I am really sorry about that. I believe you can get the job.
Text 3
W: John, could you please help me to fix my computer now? I have to attend an important meeting later.
M: Sorry, Jane. I'm busy typing a document. Maybe Robert is free now.
Text 4
M: Where were you this afternoon? We wanted you to join our camping, but we couldn't find you.
W: I went to the bookstore.
M: Oh, what did you buy?
W: I bought a New Webster Dictionary. Besides this dictionary, I also bought a book on English grammar.
Text 5
M: Look, here's your graduation photo. Who's that girl next to you?
W: It's Jane Moore.
M: Oh, yes. How is she doing now?
W: She went to a medical school after finishing college. And then she moved to Sydney. I heard she had made a lot of money.
Text 6
M: Hello! Mary! Happy Thanksgiving!
W: Hi, Kevin! Oh, I ordered some chocolate pies from that bakery on Bleecker Street. Could you pick them up for me?
M: Sure. But you're not making any pies yourself this year?
W: No, I just don't make chocolate pies.
M: Why don't you do that?
W: I just don't want to do that. When I was young, my sister and I entered a pie-eating contest. I ate so many chocolate pies, and when I weighed myself later, I found I had gained ten pounds, which made me very depressed.
M: And did you win the contest?
W: Of course. Two minutes, twelve pies!
Text 7
W: Honey! How about going to visit my grandparents tomorrow? I'm looking forward to seeing their beautiful garden.
M: Well, I guess I could take a couple of days off work.
W: Really? That's great!
M: Oh no, wait a minute.
W: What's the matter?
M: I have an important meeting tomorrow. I can't miss it. What about the day after tomorrow??
W: Oh, but I am going to the Van Gogh exhibition that day! I've been waiting a year for this.
M: Maybe we can go to your grandparents' home next weekend.
W: All right.
Text 8
M: Excuse me. Do you know where the airport is?
W: Yes, I do. It is far away from here. It's in the northeast of the city.
M: I'm in a hurry. Could you tell me how to get there?
W: Of course. You can take the No. 40 bus to the subway station, and then take the Airport Express.
M: How long will it take me to get to the subway station by bus?
W: Almost half an hour.
M: Oh, where is the bus stop?
W: Turn left at the crossroads and walk straight for about five minutes until you reach Sunshine Hotel. The bus stop is in front of it.
M: Thank you very much.
W: That's all right.
Text 9
W: Hi, Jack! Are you free? We want to hold a birthday party for Joey the day after tomorrow, and that's July 7th.
M: Sounds great! How many people are coming?
W: All of our classmates: twenty.
M: Oh, I don't think Tom can come.
W: Why? What happened to him?
M: I heard he was injured in a car accident.
W: Really? I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that he will get better soon.
M: Well, by the way, what kind of food do we need to prepare?
W: Oh, Anne will bring some cheeseburgers and potato chips, and Emma will bring home-made chocolate pies. I'm going to bring champagne.
M: Great. What else should I buy?
W: Well, you could buy some flowers and balloons.
M: Okay.
Text 10
My name is Amit. 18 months ago, I got a job at Google and I had the idea of building virtual museums. It took 18 months to get the project started. A lot of fun negotiations and stories, I can tell you, with 17 very interesting museums from nine countries. I grew up in India. I had a great education, but I didn't have access to a lot of those museums and their artworks. So I decided to travel and go to those museums, including the Uffizi in Italy, MoMA, the Hermitage, the Rijks, the Van Gogh, and my favourite museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Now, while working at Google, I am trying to put this desire to make museums more accessible with technology together. So we formed a great team of people. We have started doing this.
