M: Did you hear about the big storm that's coming from the west? It's supposed to bring 10 inches of snow.
W: Are you serious? It's nearly April!
W: Don't throw the bottle away. It's not good for the environment.
M: Well, I can't use it again. I don't need it for anything.
W: Give it to me. I'll put it with glass, paper and plastic for collection.
M: That's a beautiful painting you did. I loved painting when I was in high school. Did you learn to paint in college?
W: I took a lot of classes then. But I actually never picked up a paintbrush until I started taking an adult class after I had my daughter Amy.
W: Drop me at the US Post Office in Manhattan please.
M: Well, that's an hour's ride. Why not just post your mail here?
M: I'd now like to introduce my favorite author to the stage. Agatha Peterson! She has just flown in from Atlanta and come straight here to be with us.
W: Thank you very much, John. I am happy to be here to speak with you. I'm surprised to see so many fans.

M: I'm going to cook dinner for us all tonight.
W:What are you making?
M: Sausages and creamy potatoes. It's a British classic.
W: Anna doesn't eat meat. She stopped when we were spending our holiday in July last year.
M: Don't worry. I got her some fish instead. She still eats fish, right?
W: Yes, but don't add milk to the potatoes. Glen can't eat dairy products.
M: I need to, otherwise they won't be like the recipe. I'll cook his separately.

听下面一段对话,回答第8至第9两个小题。现在你有10秒钟的时间阅读这两个小题。
W: Mom and Dad will have been together for 30 years next month. We should throw them a party.
M: We just had one a week ago for your birthday. And besides, everyone will be together for our graduation the month after that!
W: This party is for them, not us! I think it is an important date to celebrate. We should just go out and have a nice dinner at a restaurant.
M: OK, I understand. Let's just make food for everyone and have a nice evening at home.
W: It will be more work to make food, though. There will be a lot of people. I will ask everyone to bring something, like at a barbecue. Or we can take them out to a personal dinner ourselves.
M: Instead of that, let's just pay for them to go out together.

听下面一段对话,回答第10至第12三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
M: Rambo bit another dog today. That's the second time this month. I think we need to stop taking him to the dog park during his walks. He pulled the rope right out of my hands to chase after one of the neighbor's dogs. We get a fine every time he does it, and we can't afford to pay a third time!
W: Why don't we pay for lessons? I saw an advertisement for a dog-training place in the local paper. That seems like the best answer.
M: Do those classes really work? I always see them in magazines and on television, but I never hear that they actually work. Rambo is a part of our family now, but this has to change. I don't want to be worried every time we take him out of the house.
W: I'll call the one I saw, because I know it is a local business. Hopefully, we can talk to other customers and see if they are having positive results with their dogs.

听下面一段对话,回答第13至第16四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
W: Dad is asking you and me to help him pick fruit in the garden. There is so much fruit that he can't get it all himself.
M: But I've been at school all week. I've just done a load of homework, and I was looking forward to relaxing in front of the TV.
W: Consider your father. He has also been working all week.
M: But I don't feel like I have any energy.
W: Fresh air will make you feel better. Dad says there are mountains of fruit this year, and you know how much you enjoy eating it.
M: Which does he want me to pick?
W: Well, I'm going to pick the strawberries. Apples and pears also need picking.
M: What is Dad doing at the moment?
W: He is up a ladder picking apples, so I guess he'll want you to do the others.
M: What's the hurry, anyway? The fruit will still be there tomorrow and the day after, won't it? It won't go bad so quickly.
W: Haven't you seen the weather forecast? A huge storm is on the way. It will all be lost if we don't get it today.
M: OK, I'll go out now. I'm hungry anyway, so I might eat a few pears while I'm picking them.
W: Make sure you wash them before you eat.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
M: Did you know that more than three billion people live on less than $2.50 a day and an estimated 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty making $1.25 or less daily? Extreme poverty is a global issue, but different poverty levels make it difficult to compare them. For example, someone living in America earning $5 an hour may be a lot poorer than someone earning $1 an hour in Africa. The World Bank has been monitoring the poverty line since it was created. It estimates that in 1990, 36% of the world's population was below the poverty line. However, two decades later, this number had been reduced to 18%. By 2030, it wants this number to be at 3%. Although this may seem like an impossible task, it is going to focus on fast income growth for the bottom 40%. It also wants to see a rise in shared prosperity. One idea that is gaining popularity is the idea of a basic income, with organizations such as the Omidyar Network supporting it. This would mean everyone got paid, regardless of whether they have a job or not. Finland ran a trial for two years with great success, and after the COVID-19, many countries including Spain and Scotland will be seriously considering introducing one. Senior officials of the United Nations have also voiced their support, and urged other countries to take it as a solution to many world issues.
