W: How's your mother now? I heard she had an operation last week.

M: She is much better. Thank you. But she still needs to stay there for two more weeks.

 

  

W: Where shall I drop you off, sir?

M: I'm going to the airport, but please stop at the Healey Supermarket. My wife is waiting for me there. We're going to Canada together.

 

  

W: You seem to have a lot of work to do at your office. You're always staying late and working overtime.

M: That's true. But the work is interesting. I don't mind extra hours at all.

 

  

W: I have to take an examination every day next week.

M: I have one on Monday, another on Tuesday and two on Friday, none on Wednesday and Thursday. I'm thankful for that.

 

  

M: Is there anyone available to help make a copy of my DVD?

W: No, not until tomorrow. But you can do it yourself by following the instructions on the computer.

W: May I have your name, sir?

M: Daniel Smith.

The Old Man and the Sea is one of Ernest Hemingway's most lasting works and may become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a great part in his winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954 and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man and the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snows of Kilimanjaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that leaves the deepest impression on me. This novel mainly writes about one old man alone in the sea who fishes. He caught one big fish. But he met a shark on the way home. The old man used all his skills to fight with the shark. At last, the fish he caught was eaten up by the shark, but he never gave up. This book shows us that the confidence is just like the automobile motor, and is power which makes the person go forward.
