现在你有5秒钟的时间阅读第1小题的有关内容。

W:  Did you have fun at the celebration?

M: Yes. It was great. People gathered together in colorful clothes to give all kinds of performances.

W:  I hope it will be fine tomorrow.  I'm going boating with Tom.

M: Oh.  I think it will be fine.

W: Are you sure?

M: Yes. I heard it on the radio.

W: Hi, Jim.  Did you have a nice weekend?

M: Yes, Kate.  It was great. I went camping with my friends in the Catskills.

W: Really? How was the weather there?

M: It was very nice.

W:  I'll see you at the theatre.

M:  Better still, let's meet in the Red Lion Bar  to have a nice small talk.

W: Good idea. And I'd love to have a drink there.

M: I have to finish four papers in a week , so I'd really have a hard time.

W:I've told you it would be better  if you prepared your papers at the beginning of the summer holiday.

W:  That's the first film  I've seen with an interval. It was hard to work out what was happening and the break even made me forget  the actors' names.

M: Indeed. They kept playing the same song, but it added to the atmosphere.

M:  What did you think of the test? I answered all the questions, but I have no idea if I did well or not.

W: Yeah, I have no idea, either. But I'm sure we both did fine.  We also have to write a paper that's due on Monday, right?

M: You really have a lot of hobbies, Sarah. How do you find time to keep up with all of them?

W:  That's the nice thing about being retired.  I have always had a desire to do more in the field of art, and now that I have time,  I really enjoy taking art classes at the community college.

第二组

听下面7段对话或独白。每段对话或独白后有1个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话或独白后,小题将给出10秒钟的作答时间。每段对话或独白读两遍。

W: Hi, Steven.  Do you have any plans for the future?

M: Sure. I've decided to study hotel management at college after high school.

W: So you want to be a hotel manager, right?

M: Yes.  How about you, Susan?

W:I want to be a Chinese teacher.

M: Why? Don't you think working as a teacher is a hard job?

W: Well, it's not as difficult as you think. And I think it's worth doing. Teachers can help students realize their dreams.

M: So, what is it like to live in London?

W:I don't live in London. I live in Manchester.

M:Oh, I always think British people come from London.

W:No, I've only been to London three times in my life.  London is in the south.

M:  So where is Manchester?

W:  It's in the north of England. So are Liverpool, Leeds, York and several other cities.

M: Are those places different from each other?

W:  They each have their own character. British people may look the same and dress the same, but there are lots of different accents.

M: Why so many?

W:  Well, the UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Plus, there are local accents, left over from the days when people didn't travel very much.

M: Selling your things online helps you get rid of those you don't need, and it can also be a great source of income.

One thing you need to consider carefully is the platform on which you are going to advertise. Most big platforms in the field can give you access to a bigger pool of potential customers and offer insurance.

The disadvantage, however, is that you will need to pay some money for using the platform.  You can use some platforms that either charge a smaller fee for advertising or even no fee at all.

A few more things to keep in mind: always be accurate with your descriptions of the things you are selling. The last thing you don't want is to be accused of cheating and banned from the website. Moreover, be careful with your personal information.

Remember that a smart, prepared seller is a happy seller.

M: Can you tell me some interesting activities in the library?

W: Yes. We offer a lot of activities and the most popular one is Story Time for children.

M:Isn't there a family movie night?

W:Yes. But it's not at night anymore. We used to have Family Movies on Fridays when the library was open until nine, but now we switch it to the weekend — Saturday afternoons.

M:How much do you charge for the movies?

W:They're all free. The movie starts at 2:30 in the Reference Room.

M:And what takes place on Friday evenings?

W:We've just started a weekly Lecture Series and the lectures cover all different kinds of topics.

M:That sounds like something I'd be interested in. When does it start?

W:The lecture starts at 6:30 in the Meeting Room. But you'd better come early, or there will be no seats left for you.

M:I got it. Thanks.

M:For the first time in 30 years, people in India can see the Himalaya Mountains from their city.

W:I don't understand. Why couldn't they see the mountains before? It's not like people's eyesight has changed recently. Does it have to do with the weather?

M:Not really. It's because many people are staying home because of the COVID-19. There's less pollution.

W:Oh, then I'm not surprised now.

M:Yeah. I really hate the idea that  30 years of pollution clouds are normal. They're so dirty and terrible.

W:I think we should keep some of the changes we were forced to make in this time.

M:I agree.I think businesses can still make profits without  polluting our planet so much. It should be the goal of the whole world to keep our environment clean for future generations.

W: Chocolate is very popular in Britain. The British are one of the biggest consumers of chocolate.  Apparently women buy more chocolate than men, but it doesn't mean they eat more because they give some away as a present. Men buy less chocolate, but normally eat it all themselves.

The popularity of chocolate is shown by the fact that there are chocolate societies, chocolate weekends and there are magazines just about chocolate in Britain. But what makes it so special?

Scientists proved that chocolate can make you feel physically good. It is sweet, light and absolutely delicious. But if you eat a lot of chocolate you may put on weight. And dentists say that it is not good for your teeth. So chocolate makes you feel good but you often feel bad about eating a lot of chocolate because you know or you think it is not good for you.

W: Talking about personal relationships, well, I'd naturally think of my relationship with my mother.  Whenever I need help, my mother is always there for me. She often tells me that I can be anyone I want, as long as I'm confident of myself. She sees my talent and pushes me to do the best I possibly can. As I was growing up, we were often on the move. I had to admit that moving so often made me feel lonely. But my mother did everything she could to help me feel happy. In fact, so much travel was really a good thing because it made us close. I respect my mother so much as she never treats me as a child, but as an equal. She gives me the freedom to make mistakes and to learn from them all. Unlike friendships that can fade or break, I know I'll always be connected to my mother no matter what I face. She is not just a role model, but someone I love.
