W:Why are there all the candles? Is the electricity out or something?
M:No, I just thought it would make the place smell nice.
W:It does smell nice, but it's still awfully dark.
M:I'm going on an all-meat diet.
W: That sounds crazy. Everyone needs to eat a balanced diet.
M:Think of the people who live in very cold places, like some parts of Russia. They mostly eat meat, and they can't grow vegetables easily.
W:Yes, but you don't live there.
W:How did you like the dishes, sir?
M: Delicious. Everything was excellent here. Thank you!
W:Do you want some coffee or tea, sir?
M:No, thanks. I'm fine. I'll just have the bill, please. How much is your service charge?
W:15%. And it is included in your bill. Thank you very much, sir. We look forward to seeing you again.
W:Ben, did you see the program last night about the Olympic Games? It was brilliant. I learnt so much !
M:Did you? I thought it was quite boring. In fact, I'm not really interested in sports programs.
W:But you love sports. You play football and tennis and basketball and...
M:Yes, I enjoy playing sports, but I hate watching them on TV.
M:Are you going to the Shaky Knees Festival?
W:It's a little far away from me, but I have to ask: how much are the tickets?
M:I'm not sure about them this year, but last year, the single-day price was $50 and the three-day price was $100.
W: That seems expensive. Does that include any meals or drink?
M:It will include a hot dog and two bottles of water.

W:I just watched a new film. It was pretty exciting. I love the director. He is great.
M:Anything else?
W:The acting was good, too. Especially that little kid, he's such a good actor. But the story didn't seem believable in the rest of the film. I found it really disappointing.
M: Would you recommend it?
W: Sure , but it's not the best film around at the moment.
W:Wow, that was so entertaining! How come I had never heard of that before?
M:It is an old movie. I had never heard of it before today, either. Obviously, you liked it.
W:It had a great story and awesome acting. Oh, the music was so good!
M:Yes, the music was wonderful. But don't you think there was a lot of unnecessary blood?
W:That's what makes it so realistic, though.
W:Hi Jim. How are you doing?
M:Not bad. Very busy, though. I just got off work. I'm about to get something to eat.
W:I hear you've changed your job. Where are you working now?
M:In the ABC Company as a computer programmer. It's a good job but a bit difficult for me now. It requires a lot of work.
W:Well, I'm sure you can manage. Now I'd better let you go to get some food.
M:Yeah. It's great to see you again.
W:I'll go to the office. I've got lots of work to do.
M:Okay. It's nice now that your office is in City Square. You don't have to travel very far at all.
W:But you'll never see how terrible the traffic is in the rush hour.
M:I'm going to the new branch of my company in Newtown tomorrow, but I'm not looking forward to it. It is in a quiet place and my office is much more spacious than the old one, but I have to travel two hours on the train.
W:So, you've applied to do a teaching course here.
M:Yes, that's right.
W:I'd like you to tell me, first of all, why you want to be a teacher.
M:OK.Well, I've always loved explaining things and helping people. I'm not looking for an easy job — I like a challenge ! I also want to work with young people.
W:And why have you decided to become a PE teacher?
M:OK, playing sports is my favorite. I really believe it's important for young people to do sports at school.
第三组
听下面5段对话或独白。每段对话或独白后有1个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话或独白后,每小题将给出10秒钟的作答时间。每段对话或独白读两遍。
M:Hey, thanks for the tomatoes! They look amazing. Are they from your garden?
W:Yeah. I thought you'd like to have some in your salad tonight.
M:Yes, I sure appreciate that! How do you get them to grow so large, anyway?
W:Actually, I have a lot of gardening tips. Do you want to hear them?
M:Sure.
W:Well, the first step is to make sure that they are planted in very healthy soil. So first you must prepare that. Also, you need to plant them in a place where they have access to full sun. You also need to give them lots of space to grow.
M:That would be easy in my yard.
W:Yes, it would. Are you thinking of growing your own?
M:Probably not. As long as I can get these huge ones from you, why bother?
W:So where should we start? This place is huge!
M:Why don't we check out the transportation exhibition?
W:Right! I really want to see the high speed train that travels on air.
M:Sounds interesting. But let's not miss the Reality Room. It's really cool. No matter where you are, you just put on a video hat and you can be in New York — walk down the streets, skate through Central Park and you never even leave the room.
W:It's probably a lot safer to see New York that way. But I'd like to see the Genetic Engineering Room too.
M:What's that about? Sounds frightening!
W:Well, they've developed some new tomatoes. They are supposed to be very sweet and juicy, and they don't go bad as fast as normal tomatoes.
M: To be honest, I'm nervous when technology is mixed into our food.
W: Everyone seems to be on a diet. Have you noticed that?
M: At least everyone is talking about it. A neighbor of mine is on a banana diet. She eats one banana for breakfast, one for lunch, and two for dinner.
W: That would be bad for her health. Has she lost any weight?
M: She doesn't look any thinner. My sister eats eggs to lose weight, only eggs for breakfast, for lunch, and for dinner.
W: That's bad for her heart! Something in eggs is good for losing weight, but too many eggs are bad for the heart.
M: I've also read that. What about a fish diet? One of my cousins eats nothing but fish, even for breakfast!
W: That's too expensive. The best way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. That's why I'm on my way to the tennis court.
W: Professor Brown, which do you prefer, writing or teacher training?
M: Well, I enjoy both very much. In fact, I wouldn't want to give up either. These days most of my time is spent on writing. I go to the university just two half days a week to work with graduate students.
W: What plans do you have for the future?
M: Now that we have completed a textbook and its new CD program, we plan to develop more textbooks for other markets. People sometimes say to me, "You work too hard." The truth is I enjoy what I do, and I don't consider it to be work.
W: What do you like to do that's not education-related?
M: I like playing the piano. I'm fortunate to have been born with the ability to play the piano by ear. If I remember a music piece, I can play it.
W: Helen Perry, one of the greatest actresses of all time, was born in 1847.Her acting life didn't actually have a good start because acting was not a suitable job for a young woman at that time.
Although her first role was very small, she had great trouble learning the dialogue lines. However, this didn't prevent her becoming a successful actress. People said the thing that made her so special was her voice. Unfortunately, her voice got lower and lower when she was in her fifties, which nearly brought her acting life to an end. She finally had a throat operation, which was very important for her and made her go on acting for another 25 years after that. Helen Perry is famous for several famous plays. But few people know her talent in writing. She also had quite a few degrees. But she said what really pleased her was that the audience loved her.
