W: When can I get back to work, Dr. Woods?

M: I suggest you take it easy until your temperature goes back to normal.

W: Harry, are you coming to the office party after work?

M: I wish I could, but I need to practice for my show. I don't know any of the songs yet!

M: What about the dark blue jeans, Madam? They  look great with that ten-dollar T-shirt. And the jeans are only $20.

W: OK. Please pack me both the T-shirt and the jeans.

W: Your sister Kate is sleeping in bed. Don't wake her up, Jim!

M: Oh, Mom! I want someone to play with.

W: Don't worry. I'm helping your dad get ready for work.  I can hang out with you later.

W: The museum is open later on Fridays. We could see the new exhibition after work.

M: The weekend would be a lot better. I have to work late this week to finish a report.

W: Are you getting ready for the typhoon? It is going to be a violent one.

M: That's why I'm planning to get some plastic sheets to cover my windows in case they break. I remember supplies were short when the last typhoon hit, so it's necessary to buy the basic necessities of life like packaged food, bottled water and toilet paper in advance.

W: Yeah. That's quite necessary. I find it funny that no matter how advanced our society gets, nature can still cause some damage. I heard  damage to property it would cause is expected to reach over $200 million.

M: We can never look down on the power of nature.

M: Did you print the document? I need it on Monday.

W: Not yet. It seems something is wrong with the printer.

M: Did you check whether there's a paper jam or not?

W: Yes. The printer shows no sign of that. There's also enough paper, but it has this strange sign on the screen.

M: Let me see. Oh, what our printer needs is powder.

W: Can you pick some up at the store?

M: They probably won't have any. Let me make an order online. It should come within the next 24 hours.

M: Aren't you going for a run? I thought you did it every evening.

W: I do, during the months when days are longer. But look outside. You can't see your hand in front of your face at this time in winter.

M: You'll be safe enough. We are in a peaceful area. And it seems not too cold.

W: I know, but  I like to be able to see where I am.

M: So, are you going to take a break?

W: No, I was going to use the exercise bike, only to find it's not working.

M: Maybe something's wrong. We have to get someone to look at it. If you like, you could jump rope.

W: That's a very good idea. The kids have a rope somewhere. So, that's what I'll do.

M: That should be very good exercise if you do it for long enough.

W: Yes, it will certainly build me up.

W: You know, I have tried — really tried — but I just can't get my head round the math problem Mr. Benson gave us.

M: It's a real killer. I'm still trying hard to work it out.

W: It's just lots of numbers that mean nothing to me. It even made me sleepless last night.

M: Oh, that's terrible. You'd better go to see Mr. Benson and tell him your trouble. Ask him to explain it to you.

W: Actually, I am planning to go to his office now.

M: He won't be there. He's teaching in the classroom down the hall.

W: Ah, right. I can go to him after class. Now I'll go to the canteen and get some lunch first. Are you coming with me?

M: No, I'm going to stay here in the library and catch up on my work.

W: OK. I have to eat something. It's noon now. That means I haven't had anything for a whole day.

M: No wonder you couldn't sleep. You shouldn't go to bed on an empty stomach.

W: Yeah. My mother is always saying this to me, too.

A scarf made by a German woman to record her dissatisfaction with frequent train delays sold for 7,550 euros online. The "train delay scarf" came to people's attention when the woman's daughter, Sara Weber, a journalist, posted a photo of it on her social media earlier in 2019. Her mother, an office clerk in the Munich area, made two lines a day in 2018 to represent how long she was delayed, Sara explained. The scarf is colorful: two rows of gray wool means a delay of fewer than 5 minutes, pink signifies delays of between 5 and 30 minutes, while red means she was delayed for more than 30 minutes or in both directions. "In the spring, everything was OK, so there is lots of gray and pink, " Sara wrote. " Then for a while it was all red: traffic was heavy throughout the summer." The scarf, around 1.5 meters long, represented many Germans' dissatisfaction with train delays, despite their country's reputation for efficiency and punctuality. After the post spread widely on social media, Sara and her mother decided to sell the scarf to help an organization, which helps weak passengers or those facing travel emergencies.
