W: Are you ready? I've got a hat for the sun, and some spare balls. There's a tennis match later so the court's only available until 3. Therefore we should get a lift from Dad.

M: It would be nice to ride our bikes if we had time, but it's good, and thus we won't have to carry things.

M: It's me again. I've just realized I have to see the doctor at 11:00 tomorrow morning. Could we possibly meet at 12:00 instead of 10:00?

W: No problem. I could meet you for a working lunch if that suits you.

M: We were so lucky that we got these last-minute tickets.

W: Yeah. But a flight home would be much faster and more comfortable than a train ride.

M: But it was too expensive. At least this is faster than a coach.

M: Everybody said this geography course would be easy.

W: But it hasn't quite worked out that way, has it?

W: Shall we meet by the ticket office at the concert hall?

M: There'll be so many people there. I might miss you. Why don't we wait for each other at the café near the entrance?

W: Good idea. We can get coffee there before the concert starts.

M: Another app to download. But do you really think it'll catch on?

W: Well, everyone has a cellphone nowadays so the basic technology's there already. And it'll be more convenient than using cash or a credit card. In fact, some stores won't even accept cash payments.

M: But will it be all that convenient? I mean getting out my cellphone won't be any easier than taking out my credit card.

W: True. But you need to take into consideration just how many services are dealt with online. By connecting your credit cards to your cellphone, you'll be able to use it wherever you are — at home, in the office or at the mall.

M: Hi Zoe! Have you heard about the arts festival?

W: No, but I'm not too interested in painting and drawing.

M: Well, there are some good concerts on!

W: Really? Are there any rock concerts that I would like? Or, are they classical music concerts only?

M: Most of them are classical. However, your favorite rock star Bob Wood will be there.

W: That sounds nice. Where's the event?

M: It was going to be in the old cinema, near the stadium. But he's so popular that they've changed their plans. Now it's going to be in the big exhibition center. It's on Wednesday.

W: Oh no. I can't come! It's my brother's birthday. He asked me to play the music at his party!

M: That's a pity!

W: Peter, I'm planning a day trip to Paris.

M: That's wonderful. Eurostar trains take about two hours and 20 minutes if you go from the center of London to the center of Paris. Plus the train journey is pleasant.

W: Good idea. The bus from London to Paris takes more than seven hours. Driving takes under six hours if you don't hit traffic problems. Not worth it.

M: I encourage you to choose two or three activities and to plan your day around them. You're not interested in art, so you don't have to go to any museums. I don't recommend you to climb the Eiffel Tower either. Instead, I recommend getting a good view from the nearby Arc de Triomphe.

W: Any other advice?

M: The weather changes quickly in Paris and rain can come out of nowhere, even on a sunny day. So do not forget an umbrella!

M: Hey, Jane! What's so interesting?

W: Oh hi, Tom.I'm reading this article on the societies of the Ice Age.

M: The Ice Age? There weren't any societies then — there were just small groups of people living in caves, right?

W: That's what people used to think. But according to the article, the Ice Age people were surprisingly advanced.

M: Oh, really? In what ways?

W: Well, the Ice Age people were the inventors of language, art, and music as we know it. And they didn't live in caves; they built their own shelters.

M: What did they use to build them?

W: In some of the warmer places they built houses of wood. In other places they used animal bones and skins or lived in natural stone shelters.

M: How did they stay warm?

W: Well, it says here that in the early Ice Age they often built their houses facing south to take advantage of the sun.

M: Hey, that's pretty smart.

W: Then people in the late Ice Age even warmed their homes by putting heated stones on the floor.

M: I guess I spoke too soon. Well, I will give a presentation on the Ice Age next week. Can you help me with that? I'm going to impress my classmates with my amazing knowledge of Ice Age civilization.

M: We are very proud of our nature garden here at Regent School. Mr. Jenkins started this garden as part of the national project called "Protect Our Nature". Teachers can use the garden for lots of different subjects, such as science and math. However, they mostly use it to teach biology. Students learn about how the flowers grow and change during the year. But there are more things students can do in the garden. For example, Mrs. Collins, our art teacher, takes her class to the nature garden once a week. Her students spend an hour there, drawing pictures of their favorite plants. There are some trees students can draw. We started with just three trees, but now there are eleven. We hope to grow more and have twenty by next year. Parents are welcome to visit our garden. Students and teachers are always busy from Monday to Wednesday and sometimes on Fridays. So, the best day to come is on a Thursday. It's better to come then so that we can show you around.

W: What happened to you, young man? Why are you in the hospital?

M: I broke my leg while playing football at school. My friend kicked me instead of the ball. It hurts a lot! I hope you can fix it.

M: What are you thinking right now, Lucy?

W: Can't you see? I'm thinking that if you were quiet, I could get my homework done. But it is difficult for me to concentrate on it since you are always talking.

M: I'd like to exchange this dictionary for another copy. Some of the pages are missing.

W: I'm sorry to hear that. Let me call the manager and you can talk to him about it.

M: The school gym is closed today.

W: Well, you could do tennis practice in the park. There's a net there. Or you can use the net here in my garden.

M: I think the park's too far away.

W: I hope to get a part-time job during the winter holiday and make some money. How about you?

M: I will stay with my grandma in the countryside, and get ready for next term's study when I return.

W: Are you going to attend the meeting at two in the afternoon?

M: No, I can't.

W: No? Why? It'll begin soon.

M: I have an important report to write. And it has to be handed in before four.

W: Actually, I can't either. I will be meeting a visiting customer then.

M: Excuse me, Miss. I don't know how to turn on the reading light.

W: Just press the switch on your arm rest.

M: OK. It's so easy. Thank you very much.

W: You're welcome. By the way, would you like a copy of the latest TIME?

M: Oh, no, thank you. I feel a little uneasy now.

W: Shall I bring some medicine for you?

M: Yes, thank you. I'm not feeling well, Miss. Could I stretch out on those two empty seats?

W: No problem. You're probably feeling sick on the plane, and I'll get some medicine for you right away.

M: Thanks a lot! You are so kind.

W: Here are your pillow and blanket.

M: Martha, you used to work as a chef, but now you run your own "mobile restaurant". How?

W: Well, I had all sorts of ideas for new dishes, which the staff thought would sell well, but the boss wasn't interested. That was when a friend told me about the "mobile restaurant" idea. It sounds great.

M: So you can decide on your menu?

W: Yes, but obviously the dishes I know how to cook are on my menu. Then I advertise it so people can book a meal. The most amazing thing is that all the advertisements are done through websites. And because you know how many people you're cooking for, food doesn't get wasted.

M: Nice.

W: Besides, I could buy all the things without risk because customers pay in advance. The greatest advantage, though, is that by having ten customers at most, I don't need to hire a waiter.

M: Do you ever run into problems?

W: Yes, I did one meal on a beach and the wind blew sand into people's food. Fortunately, I'd brought a large umbrella to protect myself from the sun, so I put it around their table instead!

M: Liz, I'm looking at the timetable here. It seems that there are some choices available.

W: So what are you going to do on Monday? In the morning we all have the "Careers Lecture".

M: Well, the "Careers Lecture" might be helpful, but I am interested in the "University Tour". So I will do the tour first, then the lecture.

W: Alright. You might learn something interesting. After all, we haven't seen much of this place yet,and we will spend four years here.

M: On Tuesday afternoon, there's a lecture about study skills, but that morning offers another choice.

W: The "Library Tour" or the "Student Union Introduction", what is your idea?

M: I think the student union is very important, but we can go there any time. Now we should take advantage of the library tour.

W: OK. Wednesday morning is free, but after lunch there's a choice between visiting the computer lab and attending a lecture on our legal rights.

M: Well, computers are the basis of everything these days, so I'm going to the computer lab.

M: Introducing yourself, whether you are a new student or an employee, can be difficult sometimes. Today, I will offer some tips to you. Give your name first. Experts say that it's helpful to give your first name, pause, and then give your first and last name, like "Hello, my name is John, John Thompson." The repetition makes it more likely that others will remember your name. Second, share why you are taking the class. If you're in a college course, you can share your intended major. Or if you're taking a class for the certification for a job, you could share what you do for work. At last, offer personal details, like hobbies or interests you have. If you are involved in sports or have pets or like to travel, the end of your introduction is a good place to give this information. You could say something like, "When I'm free, I like to train for and run half-marathons." This gives others a memorable impression. For more you concern, please continue to focus on our program. See you tomorrow at the same time.

W: You may find the key to the maths problem on Page 18.

M: Ah, it's so simple. I wonder why I didn't think that out.

W: It appears that your relationship with Mike is not normal, doesn't it?

M: I thought of him as my trustworthy friend until, to my shock, he gave me away to the boss.

M: It might be nice to see a film this afternoon.

W: Yes, why not?

M: Fine. I'll pick you up at 2 o'clock.

W: Excuse me. Could you tell me the way to the nearest post office?

M: Let me see. We're in the Grand Square now. Go straight and you'll see a cinema on your right. Then the next green building will be the post office.

M: Where is your dictionary?

W: What do you mean? You've got one yourself, haven't you?

M: Oh, if I had got mine, I wouldn't need yours.

W: My written English is OK. I'd like to improve my spoken English during the summer holidays. What shall I do?

M: The International Hotel wants to hire volunteers for foreign visitors. Maybe you could have a try.

W: But I'm afraid to speak to strangers.

M:Are you nervous when you are practising with your classmates?

W: A little. What can you suggest now?

M: Keep trying, and then you can make it. Practice makes perfect, you know.

W: That's a good idea.

M: Happy birthday to you, dear! It's November 26th today. I remembered your birthday this year.

W:My birthday was the day before yesterday. But thank you for your beautiful flowers. Better late than never!

M: How come? We celebrated your birthday in a restaurant near our house just after you returned from Africa. And it was November 26th.

W: That's true. But that was because I was not back home until two days after my birthday.

M: I see. I see. I'm sorry, dear. I'm becoming too forgetful.

W: Which do you like best, basketball, football or volleyball?

M: I like football best. What about you?

W: I prefer basketball to football. I admire basketball stars very much.

M: I think football is much more popular than basketball in the world. It drives people crazy.

W: Oh, no. Basketball is as popular as football. NBA games are very exciting. And the stars are more popular.

M: Perhaps you are right. But basketball is not to my taste. What's your other favorite?

W: I like reading. Books are my good friends. Whenever I am free, I read books, books of any kind.

M: We're different again. I like films. I think they are interesting. They teach in an amazing way. I learn a lot from them.

W: Different ideas make the world wonderful, don't they?

M:I can't agree more.

M: Mary, how I envy you, neither thin nor fat. My parents think I should lose some weight. What should I do with my diet?

W: Well, what do you eat during a normal day?

M: Let me see. I don't eat very much for breakfast, just a glass of milk, three fried eggs, one sausage and three loaves of bread.

W: Don't you think that's too much for breakfast?

M: Oh, not too much. That just helps me through a hungry morning.

W: OK. What about your lunch?

M: Well, you know our staff lunches are a tradition. We always go to the pub and have a large steak — or fish and chips.

W: And let me guess... you have a big dinner?

M: Just a three-course meal. But I can't see what I could do without that.

W: Well, I am not sure what to suggest to you then.

M: I knew it. I told Christine that my diet was very reasonable. I'm glad you agree with me.

W: Thank you very much. I'm very happy to be here today. This conference has offered a good opportunity for concerned people to meet and exchange ideas on these important issues. There are many positive water projects in progress around the world. I'm going to start with two examples and then later we'll consider them in detail. The first is here in the United States, near El Paso, Texas in a small town called San Elizario. San Elizario is a very poor town, and until just recently, people there did not have a water system in the town, so water for drinking, cooking, and toilets was difficult to get.The water authorities had told the town repeatedly that water systems would be built, but it never happened. Finally, the women in the town had enough, and they decided to do something about the problem. They got together and built a water system for themselves. Obviously, they had to learn as they went along. But they built things themselves and raised the money throughout the project, and they did it. The lives of the families in San Elizario have changed because they now have enough water for everyday activities. People from nearby towns that still don't have water systems have visited the town to get ideas about how they might set up something similar. This is a real success story. Another example of a successful project is in India...

M: I'd love to, but I've promised Tom that we will practice rock climbing that morning and going swimming in the afternoon.

W: That's OK. Have fun.

W: Andy, it's already 7:30. We'll be late for the lecture if we don't hurry up. I'll be ready in about 10 minutes.

M: I'll be OK in 20 minutes.

W: You remind me of your uncle John. He has a great appetite and eats a lot.

M: You are saying I'm big? Well, I should do more sports. Let me join you in running.

W: Daddy! Do you know where my backpack is? Did you put it in the washing machine?

M: Honey, your mother went to see your aunt. She couldn't find her bag, so she took yours with her.

M: It blows me away that Chinese people find their language easy. Look at all the characters. They are just the same!

W: Take it easy. Any native will find their mother tongue quite easy. You're doing just fine.

W:Your apartment is so large! I wish I had such a big one! You're so lucky to be living in Paris!

M: Is your apartment in New York really small?

W: Yeah, I don't even have a kitchen. You wouldn't believe how expensive it is! I pay $3,000 a month.

M: Unbelievable! I have a two-bedroom apartment close to the Seine River, and I just pay half as much as you. Maybe you should move here.

W: That would be nice. But my new job will be in London, another expensive city!

M: Hi, darling. When I was walking home from work, I saw a nice dress in a store window. It's dark blue. I'm sure you will like it.

W: Is it long or short?

M: It's your favorite style — mid-length. You could wear it on your sister's wedding.

W:Will a longer dress be better?

M: In winter, yes. But not in summer.

W: Well, isn't dark blue more of an autumn color?

M: I think it looks nice in any season. Come on! Let's go back to that store and you can see it for yourself. If you don't like it, there are other dresses you can try on.

W: All right. Will you excuse me for a few minutes to get ready?

W: What are you reading, Matt?

M: An ancient Chinese book about army science. It's called The Art of War.

W: Are you reading it for study?

M: No, it's for my personal interest. The book is famous all over the world and many armies use it to help win battles. I am reading it to improve my chess playing.

W: How will that help you?

M: I have heard good things about it from some top players. It will help me make better game plans. You know, some managers use this book to better lead their companies.

W: To help company staff win competitions in workplaces?

M: Yes. Workplaces can sometimes be like battlefields, I think.

W: That is exactly how I would describe my working environment. May I borrow your book when you've finished it?

M:OK, Aunt Lucy. You can have it when we have family dinner next week.

M: Where should we take our next trip?

W: To Wakanda. It seems so beautiful! That is my favorite country to visit.

M: Um, that's not a real place, dear. It's an imaginary country in a movie.

W: Are you sure? I think I saw it on a map of Africa several years ago.

M: When was the last time you looked at a map?

W: Probably in my high school geography classes.

M: That was a long time ago. Look — here's an online map. According to the movie, Wakanda is somewhere in East Africa. Can you see it?

W: No, I can't.

M: Ha ha! You watch too many movies, Sara. You should start reading more books and you'll learn more about the world.

W: You're right. I should read about our destinations before we start traveling.

M: Yeah, it will definitely give you a richer experience while you're there.Sara, since you're interested in East Africa, I know a beautiful island in the Indian Ocean. It belongs to Tanzania. That place has a long and rich history from many different cultures. We can learn a lot there together.

W: OK. Let's go there.

Do you have any unforgettable experiences? Well, I do. It was like a dream. Last summer, I went to a lovely beach in India. I lay on the sand and enjoyed the sunshine. When I closed my eyes, I could hear the sound of birds. Then when I opened my eyes, I saw some native girls coming by, selling drinks. A boy was looking at me from the distance. I sat up and waved to him. He came over and chatted with me, looking at my water bottle and my watch, but what he seemed to like most was my book. We spent a wonderful day together. I felt like he was my friend and I thought he felt in the same way.He brought me some seashells and later some local snacks. As I was getting up to leave, he told me to wait for a while and went straight into some bushes. I watched as he ran towards me with a large pineapple. I also gave him the book that he might love to keep as a gift.

M: I don't think we can find a better hotel around here at this time.

W: Let's walk a little further to see if there is another one. It's too noisy here.

M: Did you win the tennis competition last weekend?

W: I didn't win, because I missed a lot of balls. I should have hit the ball harder. My friend Ruth played better than me.

W: Oh, there are long queues at the checkouts. What is in your shopping basket, Chris?

M: Um, a loaf of bread and two packets of crisps. I'm always hungry after school, so I get some snacks on my way home.

W: There are Hannah's old baby clothes. I haven't got the heart to put them in the bin, and I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy them, can you?

M: Why don't you take them to Marina's? She knows lots of young mothers.

M: Hello, it's about the book I bought in your shop last week. There were one or two pages missing.

W: Sorry!

M: There's no need to apologize. I just thought you ought to know so you can check the rest of your stock, or talk to the publisher or something. That's OK.

W: Family Cinema. How can I help you?

M: Well, I'd like some information about the new film Shark 2.

W: OK.It'll be shown at 11:15 am this Saturday in Hall One. It is an animated fairy tale.

M: Anything else on that day?

W: In Hall Two, we have an award-winning science documentary named The Long Journey. It'll start at 6:15 pm. In Hall Three, by popular demand, Jack Smith's Happy Ending starts at 5:30 pm with a repeat performance at 9:15 pm. This is Jack Smith at his best in a classic action film.

W: Can you just explain what Broken Spoke does?

M: Well, we do three things: we run a training course on how to ride bikes; we also sell bicycle parts and we have drop-in workshops where we help people repair their own bikes with our tools. We get about 80% of the income from the last activity.

W: Is this a model that you can repeat?

M: Yes. There are some similar projects in the world like France, the USA.The problem for us here in Oxford is that renting a workshop is so expensive.

W: The summer is getting close. I want to encourage my son Jim to read more this summer. Jack, do you know any good summer reading programs for children?

M: Yes. The Barnes and Noble's summer reading program for kids is very good. This program begins at the beginning of May and runs for four and a half months.

W: How does it encourage children to read?

M: Well, children can earn a free book after they read eight books and log them on the downloadable reading journal. But the choice must be made from the selected books available at the store.

W: Can any children join in the reading program?

M: No. It is only available to students in grades 1 to 6.

W: That's bad. Jim is already in the seventh grade.

M: Then try the Books-A-Million summer reading program. Children in middle school can also join in this reading program.

W: Oh yeah. Michael is a party animal.

M: Do you mean he behaves like an animal? I think he's charming.

W: No.I mean he likes to go to parties and make friends. He calls his wife a bookworm. Apparently his wife's academic standard is high.

M: Yes. Katrina reads a lot. She likes Russian literature.

W: Yes, we had a long conversation about Tolstoy. She had just read Anna Karenina. And I heard her next novel would be published next month.

M: Oh, amazingly. I thought she taught at a school.

W: She used to be a teacher at our little boy's school. But now she works at home. She often looks tired. She always gets up early in the morning to prepare food. And Michael always has an excuse to refuse to do the housework.

M: Oh, man! Katrina sounds like a lark. And Michael is a cuckoo.

W: I've never heard these expressions before. What do you mean?

M: A lark gets up early. It's a cuckoo that means a crazy person.

M: My office is full of fit, slim people. When my colleagues worked out at the gym, I stayed at home and read. Instead of reading adventure novels, I would go for science fiction. Nowadays, I also pretend to like classic fiction. Last month, my mum came into my room with a Nintendo box under one arm and a hopeful smile on her face. She asked me to play sports on Wii Fit. Two days later, I found myself in my living room, trying to decide which sport to play — virtual tennis, boxing or baseball — all sports I've never played in real life. Finally, I selected tennis — after all, my mum plays it on her own Wii Fit, so how hard can it be? My flatmate refused to play with me, so I played on my own. Twenty minutes later, I was tired. As I slowly regained my strength, I found that I wanted to play again! I've now had Wii Fit for three months, and I play at least five times a week. My friend Leo was so amazed that he almost fell off the sofa when I told him I was playing games on Wii Fit. Now I'm fitter and healthier.

W: No, I didn't think so. Look for it on your desk. It's behind your books.

M: Anna, what about going to the park this morning?

W: I have to go and see Aunt Jane this morning.

M: Didn't you just visit her yesterday?

W: No. It was Aunt Alice.

W: Oops! I'm late getting home, but I don't have enough money for a taxi.

M: Why not take a bus or the subway?

W: I guess I'll take the subway.

M: Are you leaving now? It's still early.

W: Yes. I need to be home in thirty minutes. My piano teacher will be there at half past two.

M: Then hurry! Your piano teacher is really strict.

W: Do you like the story?

M: Yes. It's exciting and interesting. I haven't read a book so well written in months.

W: I love it, too. But I don't like David. What a selfish man he is!

W: Frank, what's going on? I was just told that you're going to be leaving us.

M: Yes. I'm leaving this Friday.

W: This Friday? The day after tomorrow? So soon. Could you tell me why you're leaving? You came here just about three months ago.

M: Well, to be frank, I don't really love working here.I want a job that is more challenging. I don't feel that I'm learning anything here.

W: Then why did you accept the offer in the beginning?

M: I didn't really know the work well. I wouldn't have taken the offer if I had known the work would be so simple.

M: You were talking over the phone when I entered the classroom. Were you doing the research for our school newspaper by it?

W: Yes. I was talking to my cousin David. I just asked what he liked doing in his spare time.

M: So what is his answer?

W: He likes reading novels in his leisure time. He also loves learning French.

M: Have you asked anyone else about what they do in their spare time?

W: Yes. I have also talked to six other people and four of them love surfing the Internet.

M: That's not strange. Young people today love using the Internet almost for anything. I love using the Internet, too. I love watching movies, listening to music and chatting with friends on the Internet. But I hardly ever read on the Internet.

W: I often read the news on the Internet.

M: So you don't read newspapers now?

W: Just the school paper.

M: Look at this picture. There are so many people in it.

W: Yes. There are over forty people in it. They are all my family and relatives. It was taken when I was just twelve years old. It was already eight years ago. I was in middle school back then.

M: Have you seen your family tree?

W: Yes. My mother showed it to me when I was thirteen. But I haven't seen it since then. Have you seen your family tree?

M: No, never. But it's unnecessary, I guess. I'm the only child in my family and I have few relatives. So, how big is your family?

W: My mother's side of the family is pretty small as she just has a younger brother. And my uncle isn't married yet. But my father's family is large. I have got over thirty cousins on that side of the family.

M: Your father must have many brothers and sisters.

W: Yes. He has four elder brothers and sisters and two younger brothers and one younger sister.

M: Are you close to your cousins?

W: You know, not all my cousins grew up with me. So I'm just close to those who grew up with me. And of all of them, I'm closest to Linda.

M: Is she the same age as you?

W: Yes.

M:I called your home this morning, but you didn't answer the phone.

W: I wasn't at home this morning. I was invited to Henry's new house.Have you been to his new house?

M: No. Actually, I didn't know Henry has a new house. When did he buy it?

W: He didn't buy it. He received it from his uncle who died last week. He took care of his uncle when he got sick and in the end his uncle left the house to him.

M: It was built in the 1970s, but it doesn't look old at all. It has four bedrooms, two on each floor. There is a large sitting room on the first floor. And it also has a kitchen.

M: Does it have a garden?

W:Oh, yes. There's a garden behind it. It's a good place to enjoy sunshine in winter. Also, there's a small swimming pool near the garden.

M: It sounds like a very nice house. I look forward to seeing it one day. Will Henry throw a party in the house?

W: That goes without saying.

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting a group of nature lovers who are fighting climate change. The leader of the group, John, took a few minutes to sit down and talk to me about their projects. John told me that he started the group with his wife Eliza. A year later, they grew to 10 people and now, four years later, they have 50 volunteers. John said that they planted around 100 trees last week alone. Their group focuses on fixing the places where trees have been cut down by people. John stressed that humans need the trees as much as the animals do and that people tend to forget that trees aren't just materials to sell for profit. We also need them to breathe. I was able to hear more about Eliza, who has actually stopped doing the planting with them for the past year. Eliza still travels with them, but she's started a separate group called "The Knowing Tree". John described the group as one to inform children about the importance of keeping our natural world in a good condition. It's truly inspiring.

W: I've been having trouble sleeping lately. My roommates both stay up late and I wake up early.

M: I have a similar problem, but it is because my apartment is too cold.

W: Where do you want me to stand? I've never done this before.

M: Right over there, on the black spots. Look directly at the camera, please. Don't smile.

W: I am still not comfortable with using my phone as a method of payment. It is much easier, but I feel like it's simple to steal my information this way.

M: I think it is safer. I have a digital lock that protects everything.

W: My family gets together at an Italian restaurant. We used to go to see the Spring Festival Gala, but we gave that up a few years ago. What does your family do?

M: We spend the New Year at my parents' house. My grandmother makes dinner for everyone.

W: Ladies and gentlemen. Please fasten your seat belts. We will be landing in five minutes.

M: That's good. The plane took off at 3:00 p.m. and it's 8:55 p.m. now. I thought we wouldn't be landing until 9:30 p.m.

W: There's a coin on the ground.

M: Just leave it there.

W: Why? It's money!

M: Please don't pick it up. You don't need it, do you?

W: Well, not really.

M: Someone else might, though. There are some homeless people around here. If one of them finds it, it might help them get some food or a hot drink.

W: What if they spend it on something bad, like alcohol?

M: Well, we can't predict what that money will be used for. So, just leave it alone.

W: You're right. But let's go further than that.Let's buy some sandwiches for the man who lives under that bridge.

W: Are you okay? You look like you may be getting ill.

M: I'm happy that the school year is almost over, but I really don't know how I will get all my work done. I have three papers and a public speaking project to present before the end of the month.

W: Can I help you finish any of them?

M: No. I need to do the work myself. I just need to schedule my time wisely. It will be a hard month, though.

W: I wish I could do more. Oh, I know!I will bring you lunch during the days so that you do not get interrupted. You won't even have to leave the library.

M: That sounds wonderful!

W: All right, keep your eyes closed. No looking. OK, open them! Surprise!

M: Oh my! You got me a new truck! You didn't have to do this.

W: Your father and I wanted to congratulate you on finishing your law degree. We know how hard you have worked for the past several years.

M: I don't know what to say. Thank you so much.

W: You deserve it. I know you said you wanted a motorcycle, but I don't trust that thing. I also would never forgive myself if something happened to you. Do you like it?

M: Of course I do! How much did this cost you?

W: Don't worry about it. We'll pay for your insurance for the year, but the rest is up to you. Drive safely!

M: I will. This is perfect! Just think, when I'm a successful lawyer, I'll have a vehicle big enough to pull my boat!

W: First, you have to find a job. Once you become successful, you can do whatever you want with your money. But first things first, don't forget about those who need help.

W: You say your head aches all the time?

M: Yes.

W: Is the pain at the front of your head or the back?

M: Look, I gave all these details to the receptionist when I came in. Do I have to go through it all again?

W: I'm afraid so. I have to get the details, take blood samples, and check your blood pressure. Only then can the doctor have a look at you.

M: I'm sorry. This headache makes me bad-tempered. A nurse's life can't be easy.

W: It isn't, but don't worry about me. Let's deal with your problem.

M: Will the doctor examine me here?

W: No, I do the checks in the examination room. Then you can see the doctor in his consulting room. Depending on what he finds, he might send you to the X-ray department.

M: Does this doctor know anything about headaches? On the door it says Heart and Lung Department.

W: We are using their room because the Head and Neck Department and the Accident Department are both being modernized.

M: Everything here seems to make my headache worse. I really do need to see the doctor.

W: Calm down. Getting annoyed won't help. A few more checks, and then he will see you. I'm sure he'll find a way to make you feel better.

When Bilibili uploader Lin Xiao had too many bags to carry, he built a robot to address the problem.  It looks like a suitcase, which can follow Lin everywhere and avoid blocks in its path. Besides carrying bags, it can be used for transport and even charge phones. The robot has a steel structure and a 3D-printed plastic shell. The brain of the robot is powered by an electronics platform. Although it took eight months to make the robot, Lin admits it is not good enough, particularly in its physical stability. Lin presented it in the video just to inspire more young people with the imagination and passion to create things.Lin's passion for robotics began in his first year at high school in 2018, when a teacher discovered his talent for computers and advanced his skills. One year later, he developed a smart home system, which made him understand how his products could help others. As a university freshman then, Lin believed he and his products would make a difference in the future.
