M: Both are pretty good. Jack is cleverer while his brother works harder.
M: Tell me about the house you’ve recently bought.
W: Well, it has a living room, three bedrooms and a dining room.
M: Are you going on holiday with your brother again this year?
W: Yes. He’s coming home from Canada tomorrow. Though he is interested in Italy, I have booked a hotel in Turkey. So I hope he won’t mind.
M: What time do you have? My watch says it is eight forty.
W: It is eight forty-five. I set my watch by the radio this morning.

W: Well, the truth is I can’t stand the new girl in the sales department. I have to explain everything to her many times, and she still doesn’t do anything right.
M: I’ve heard that many other people are not satisfied with her work either. I think you should talk to Mr. Wade about your problem.
W: Unfortunately, she is his niece, so I can’t.

W: Well, I forgot my homework this morning and now I’ve lost the book I was reading. I don’t know what to do now.
M: Have you tried looking for it in the classroom?
W: Yeah, but I think I left it on the bus.
M: Maybe you should call the bus driver.
W: I did. No one has found it. And it’s the one you lent me! I’m sorry!
M: Oh, no! I borrowed that here. Let’s ask the librarian and see what we can do.

W: Adam, I’m sorry.
M: But where have you been, Alice? You’re over an hour late.
W: Yes. But I couldn’t help it. I was late getting off work for a start, and then I missed the bus. The bus I did catch got caught in a traffic jam.
M: But why were you so late getting off work? The office closes at six, doesn’t it?
W: Yes, but there was a rush at the moment, and my boss asked me to do some urgent letters.
M: But didn’t you tell him you had an appointment?
W: Well, no. I thought I’d finish in about five minutes. If it hadn’t been for missing the bus and the traffic, I wouldn’t have been so late. I’m sorry.
M: Well, you’re here. And that’s the main thing.

W: Mr. Wang, can you tell me something about your work experience?
M: Yes, I worked as a bank clerk for three years in the Bank of China. I must say that it was a good job.
W: Why did you leave that job, since it was such a good one?
M: I didn’t really want to, but my family had to move to another city, so I left the bank.
W: What did you do after that?
M: I worked for a private company for six months and then I took an one-year full-time course in finance and trade.
W: What’s your best quality?
M: Um, my best quality? Well, I think I’m a hard-working and responsible person.
W: That is good. The position you applied for requires those qualities.
M: Yes, a good sales manager should work hard and be responsible.
W: Yet we want an experienced person! And you haven’t worked in this position before.
M: That is true. However, my advantage is that I am eager to do this job well. I believe I am the most suitable person for the job.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
M: Here is a piece of news about paper. Scientists have come up with a new type of paper that can be used again up to 20 times. Users will be able to either remove the writing from the paper themselves, or leave it to disappear over a period of time, after which the paper will be completely blank and ready to be printed on again. There is no big change in quality between the first and the twentieth printout. Under normal circumstances it seems that the writing will remain perfectly clear for at least three days, long enough for most practical purposes. The new process does not require ink. Instead, the paper is printed on by using a mixture of chemicals and light. If users want the print to disappear more quickly, they can apply heat to the paper. This can take as little as ten minutes. The hope is that in the future this paper will be widely used, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to the ordinary paper.
