W: I'd better run. I'm late for my flight to Oslo.
M: Are there any stops on the way?
W: Yes, two. We stop in New York and again in Paris.
M: What is your favorite type of dog?
W: I like the big ones with loud barks. They scare away strangers.
M: Not me. I like the small ones that I can pick up and put in a bag.
W: Do you know how to cook rice?
M: Yes. I boil water, and then I add rice and lower the heat for a few minutes.
W: OK, but if you add butter, salt and pepper, it will taste a lot better.
M: Here, grab a glass and celebrate with me.
W: You haven't been accepted into the program yet.
M: But I will be. I feel it in my bones. And to think I nearly gave up on this dream hurts me badly.
M: Hello, Mrs. Smith. It looks like you take good care of your teeth.
W: Yes. I brush them after every meal. It's not easy because I'm a teacher and a mother.
M: Still, it's worth it. I won't have to do any work on your teeth today.

M: We haven't played that game since we did that 10 years ago! What were the rules again? The green ball was two points and the red ball was three, right?
W: Yes, and the blue ball was a single point. You guys always used to fight each other, while I was busy getting points.
M: Oh yeah, you were so much better than Dave and he used to get so angry!
W: I guess, but Dave was only six, and you did beat him on his birthday at that time. I bet he is still angry after all these years.

M: Excuse me. Are you Anita Handley?
W: Yes. How can I help you?
M: I represent Comfort Tour. We're looking for a British company to help us with our marketing in Britain.
W: Ah, so you're looking for a British agent to represent you here. Is that right?
M: Yes, exactly.
W: Well, that's perfect. We already represent a number of companies, so I'm certainly interested in discussing a partnership of some kind.
M: Oh, what other partnerships do you have?
W: Well, we represent a large Japanese company and we have agreements with agents in Australia and Greece. We handle all of their marketing issues in Britain.
M: That sounds great. Why don't we sit down and talk a bit more about it?
W: Fine. Let's discuss it over coffee.

M: You know, you should be an actress when you grow up. You have the right personality for it.
W: Is that a compliment?
M: Of course. You always like to be the center of attention.
W: Doesn't everyone?
M: No. Many people are shy. Perhaps most people are.
W: It's funny that you should say that, because I have been asked to go on stage.
M: I told you so. Which part do they want you to perform?
W: It won't be acting. Mary wants me to sing in her band.
M: Can you sing?
W: I'd like to try. It's a strange band. Apart from musicians, they also have fire-eaters.
M: That sounds exciting. I'd like to see them perform.
W: They've asked me to join their practice on Monday and Wednesday. The first show is on the first day of this weekend.
M: That won't give you much time to learn how to sing.
W: Oh, I'll just get up there on stage and do my best. It will be fun.

M: Hi, Sara. I heard that you are organizing a campaign on Apr. 22 on the occasion of Earth Day.
W: Yes. We are calling it the green campaign.
M: Oh, green! I guess this campaign is related to the environment.
W: Yes, of course. All participants in the campaign will wear green because we want to make people aware of the bad effects of pollution.
M: That seems great! Can you give me more details about your campaign?
W: Sure. The first day we will clean up garbage at school. The following day we'll plant some trees. Then we will hang some posters on the school board.
M: Interesting! I'd like to help you in your campaign. I have an idea.
W: Yes, go ahead. What is it?
M: We may ask our teachers to help us in our campaign by not bringing their cars to school.
W: It's a good idea.
M: Also we might paint some paper, bottles and lamps and use them as decorations for our classrooms. I'll invite George to join us. He's ready to help, you know.
W: Wow! Great, Peter! Thank you so much for your help.
M: You're welcome.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
"Rodeo" is a competitive sport that was designed during the late 1800s. The sport is based on the methods that the cowboys would use when dealing with their animals. As communication and technology changed, methods from different countries were able to come together and mix. The sport itself was born in one of two countries, Spain or Mexico, though it is still debated. Later, countries like Canada, Australia, Philippines and the United States would adopt the practices and the sport as well. Rodeo is traditionally a horse-riding sport. However, cows are also used sometimes. Rarely, a smaller person or a child could ride on a pig, but it is still unusual to try. The whole point of Rodeo is to test the skills of a cowboy. The cowboys are able to entertain crowds by showing their talents in a variety of tests. Cowboys will do things like throwing tied ropes to catch animals, riding on an animal that is trying to get them off and sometimes a combination of the two. The sport requires a lot of knowledge about animal behavior. Cowboys must also be in very good physical shape to be able to run around and hold onto the very strong animals that they deal with. In the United States, the sport is the most popular in the mid-west and southern states because of their larger farming population.
