W: OK.
M: Welcome back, Alice. How was your trip to Paris?
W: Great. I met with Mr. White. We agreed on a new contract. Can I get a rest?

M: Jenny, can you meet me at the Plaza Hotel?
W: Is that the one near the railway station?
M: No, it is near the post office. Listen, I will walk to the station, you know where it is — so wait for me there.
W: Fine.
W: What's up,Jim?

W: You look very upset this evening. What is the matter?
M: I am worried about my 15-year-old nephew, Jack. He has changed a lot. He used to be very outgoing and sociable, but now he is having problems with other children at school.
W: Really?
M: Yes, now he is quiet and doesn't want to talk to anyone else. His teacher says things are going backward in his study.
W: His parents must be very anxious for him.
M: Yes. But they are too busy to talk to him. I think I need to persuade them to spend more time with Jack.
W: Take it easy. It's something natural. I was outgoing when I was little, but I became very shy in teenage years, so don't be nervous about him.
M: Maybe you are right.

W: Nice to meet you, Mr. Anderson. First, tell me your qualifications.
M: I did a four-year course at the University of Michigan, and got a diploma in engineering.

M: No, I'm a technician, but I want to challenge myself.
W: So don't you like your present job?
M: No, the work is OK. I get well along with my co-workers. But I've done the same job for four years without any promotion. I want to have a change.
W: What position are you looking for? Assistant Engineer?
M: Chief Engineer is what I want. I think I have gained enough experience for the position, and I really want to move forward.
W: And how about your salary requirements?
M: Well, I get fifty thousand dollars a year now. I'd like to get eighteen thousand dollars more. Yesterday, another company offered me sixty thousand dollars a year, but I didn't accept it.

W: My guest today is Joe Johnson, a rap singer who has just got his first big break as a movie actor.Joe, tell us about the movie.
M: It's set in the 1990s and I played a teenager who's really into dancing. The acting was a challenge for me, but trying to do that and the dancing at the same time was awesome.
W: You looked like a very good dancer in the movie. Was it really you?
M: Sure. Actually, I'm from Africa and we do a lot of dancing there.
W: Was it fun doing a movie set in the 1990s?
M: Well, we had to do a lot of homework. We were told to watch old movies and TV shows that talk like people did in those days. Some of the actors couldn't do it without laughing, but I was OK with it.
W: And what about working with Laura, who played your mum in the movie?
M: Well, people say she is not an easy person to work with and they think she is unfriendly. But that's unfair. She was by my side during the filming and I couldn't have done it without her.
W: Thank you for sharing with us.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
M: Many people catch a cold in the springtime or autumn. It makes us wonder, if scientists can send a man to the moon, why can't they find a cure for the common cold? The answer is easy. There are actually hundreds of kinds of cold viruses out there. You never know which one you will get, so there isn't a cure for each one. When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it. You feel terrible because you can't breathe well. But your body is actually eating the virus. Your temperature rises and you get a fever. But the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a running nose to stop the virus from getting to your cells. You may feel miserable but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold virus. Different people have different ways to deal with colds. In the United States and some other countries, for example, people might eat chicken soup to feel better. Some people take hot baths and drink warm liquids. Other people take medicines to relieve various symptoms of colds. There's one interesting thing to note. Some scientists say taking medicines when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus will stay in your body longer because your body doesn't develop a way to fight it and kill it.
