W: I just got back from the Scottish Highlands today.
M: Oh, wow! Did you have fun?
W: Yeah! I hiked every day and it really refreshed me. I can't wait to go there again.
M: Hi Jane! I'm sorry but I've got a basketball tournament this weekend, so I can't do the article. Could you email yours to me and I'll help you with the project next Monday?
W: Sure, I'll send it now.
M: Where have you been? I couldn't find you at your house.
W: I was in the library all the morning, studying for a paper.
M: Well, there is a concert at the city hall. I've got two tickets. Do you want to come along?
W: Quick, Jim! Turn off the TV! The show will start at 7 o'clock. We'd better leave in 20 minutes.
M: Okay. The program will end soon. Let's take the subway and not the taxi. It'll be quicker.
M: I've been writing the novel over a year, but I still can't stop adjusting it. How can I finish it?
W: Well, you can ask some editors to read it and get their opinions. When it comes back, make some changes, and then at some point you can publish it.

听下面一段对话,回答第6至第7两个小题。现在你有10秒钟的时间阅读这两个小题。
W: Are you a basketball fan, Jimmy?
M: Not really. I've been to a couple of matches and they were good. But if my friends don't invite me, I don't even watch it on TV. Boxing is more exciting. I often get tickets and travel to see that.
W: Are the tickets expensive?
M: Not really. They usually cost 25 pounds. Sometimes the TV specials are expensive, though. They are often 50 to 100 pounds.
W: Wow, that can get quite expensive. Maybe we can go and see a fight together some time.

听下面一段对话,回答第8至第10三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
W: David, you were in Switzerland for a whole month. How was it?
M: The beginning was difficult. I took a long working holiday and got a lot of work done. Then I rested for the last week.
W: Wow! Did you do anything fun?
M: Well, working so hard on so much for that long just took it out of me. Switzerland is beautiful. It has an amazing environment, beautiful nature and so much to see. I walked in the forest and took photos of the trees, mountains and animals. I even made friends with some locals and ate some interesting food. I'm going to make a photo album, too. Do you want to see any photos?
W: Yes. Wow, beautiful. I didn't know you were an amateur photographer.
M: Thanks. It's just for fun. In this one, the bird's flying off while my friend is catching a fish in the lake just here.
W: A nice shot.

听下面一段对话,回答第11至第13三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
M: Hi, Jane. You look upset. What's wrong?
W: Well, my landlady told me that the rent would increase by 10 percent, so I just had an argument with her.
M: You live in Hyde Park Corner, right? It's the most expensive place to live in London because it's close to Central London.
W: I know. I just didn't expect the landlady to increase the rent that quick. I think I should move next year.
M: To where?
W: I don't know. Some place near the subway station for sure. I hate traffic jams.
M: No one like them. But London has big traffic jams, especially central London. I prefer riding my bicycle than taking a bus.
W: The subway is the best. Mind the pollution, Bob. Do you put on a mask when cycling?
M: Sometimes. I can't afford the subway, to be honest.
W: I think you should manage your income more wisely, like cutting expenses on luxuries such as dining out. You do that a lot.
M: You know I can't cook. Do you know where I can find cheap meals?

W: Hey, Danny!
M: Hi, Jenny! It's good to speak to you.
W: Are you going to the barbecue this weekend at Sam and Debbie's house?
M: Yes. How about you?
W: Yeah, but we're not sure if we're going to make a cake as usual. And have you told Mum and Dad?
M: Yes. They will go with me. It'll be good to see the rest of the family but our car is in the garage. Are you driving there?
W: Yeah we are. We have enough space to take you.
M: That would be awesome! What time can you pick us up?
W: Well, what about 5 o'clock? We can go to the shops on the way and go through the city centre.
M: I think it's better to leave a little later, maybe half past five and get the food before. If the traffic is busy or there's no food, I don't want to turn up empty-handed. Is that okay?
W: Yeah, that sounds good. I'll speak to Peter and make it sure to get some food delivered beforehand.

听下面一段独白,回答第18至第20三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
W: Hello. I'm going to talk about British festivals. Actually, some of these aren't exactly festivals, but strange races or competitions. So, let's start in January in the north of Scotland with the Burning of the Clavie. This is a wooden alcohol container, which is set on fire and then carried through the streets. It's an ancient tradition which always takes place on the 11th of January. The fire brings good luck for the coming year. Now we come to the north of England. In February comes the Pancake Day. Everyone goes down to the road next to the beach where they skip over long ropes. And they have pancake races, running with a frying pan and throwing a pancake upward at the same time. Finally, let's go back to the south of England. In Brighton, there's a Burning the Clocks festival to celebrate the winter on December 21st. This custom started twenty years ago and is very popular. People make clock lanterns and time-themed figures of paper and wood, then walk through the town to the beach where the sculptures are set on fire and there's a massive fireworks display. So, that's just a taste of a few of our old and more modern traditions. Would you like to take part in any of them?
