M:What's the matter with you?
W:I'm not feeling well, doctor. I have a fever.
M:I'll take your temperature first. How long have you been like this?
W:It began yesterday.
M:Do you feel thirsty?
W:Yes.
M:Do you sleep well?
W:No, last night I could hardly sleep.
M:Well, it's probably the flu. Take this to the drugstore.

M:God! I've never seen anything like that. The project you just finished is the biggest one in the history of our company!
W:Really? I didn't know.
M:How many projects have you worked on this year?
W:This is the first one, actually. Can you believe it?
M:Well, it is early in the year. How about last year? How many did you work on?
W:None. I mean that this is the first project I have ever worked on, sir. I've only been here for three months, and this is my first job.
M:That's amazing. Keep up the good work, and you will go further here!

M: Hi, Barbara! Did you have a nice break?
W:Hi! I sure did. I'm glad to be back...One more term to go.
M:Yeah. How's your course?
W:I'd love to learn French, but I don't want to ruin my grade point average... If I don't do well, how will it look on my record? Do you think I should drop the course?
M:That's a tough decision. But, look. Just be sure to get a lot of practice. You know, I have a friend who speaks French. Do you want her number? Maybe you could get together.
W:Do you think she minds?
M:I bet she'd love to talk to you in French.
W:That might be fun.
Text 9
W: Can you tell me what is so special about your department store?
M:Well, yes, it is special. Reynold's is a large department store and you can find everything you want for the home here.
W:Yes, that's right, but isn't there something special about the staff — you know — has anybody retired recently?
M:No. Nobody has retired recently, and we never force anybody to retire here.
W:Who is your oldest employee?
M:Well, that would be Arthur. Arthur is our cleaner, and he's 87.
W:87! And he cleans the store every day?
M:Well, not alone. He works with two other cleaners. They're not so old — Mabel's 70 and Ivy's 76.
W:And they don't want to retire?
M:No. I think they enjoy the work, and it keeps them young.
