M: How long did you have for the English exam?
W: We were allowed one hour and a half, but I finished in less than half the time.
Text 2
M: Hello.It is Mary, isn't it?
W: Oh, my goodness! John, is that you? Long time no see! It is a long time since we left college.
Text 3
W: What's the matter? I'll finish it in a minute. You've been sitting there for ages, just staring into space.
M: I told Mike I'd send him a postcard too. Now I don't know what to say.
Text 4
W: If I were you, I wouldn't stay at home on such a sunny day.
M: But I got hurt in a football match last week.
Text 5
M: There is no use going to the bank now.
W: Yeah, you're right.It's after 5 already.
Text 6
W: Excuse me.
M: Yeah?
W: You didn't see someone pick up a blue sports bag, did you?
M: Sorry.
W: Yeah, a big, blue, nylon sports bag with a big, white Adidas logo on the side.
M: I said no.
W: I only put it down for a moment when I went into the restroom. Then I came out and...
M: It's a pity. But I can't help you.
W: Oh no! I had a brand new racket in it and ten new balls and a...
M: Well, these are public places, madam. Anyone can walk in here. You should be more careful.
Text 7
M: What's your problem? You seemed to have been thinking of something.
W: I was thinking of the test tomorrow. I'm afraid I can't pass this time.
M: Cheer up. You've been working pretty hard these days. There's no doubt that you'll pass.
W: Actually, I'm just worried about the pressure. I always feel nervous as soon as I enter exams.
M: Try to relax. With the help of deep breathing, you can remove the pressure gradually. Take your time when you start to work. You'll feel much better in this way.
W: Thanks for your kind advice. You seem to be fully prepared for the test, don't you?
M: I don't wait until tests come. If you work hard regularly, you are always ready for tests.
W: Nice talking with you. Have a good day.
M: You too, and good luck tomorrow.
Text 8
M: Where are you from?
W: The United States. I live in New York.
M: Oh, really? I think it's a big city with a large population, right? By the way, do you like it?
W: Yeah, I think it's a very good place to live in.
M: Why do you see that?
W: You see, there is always something exciting to do, and it's never boring.
M: My place isn't boring either. You can fish, hike, grow vegetables, and do all kinds of things if you like, although it's small and quiet.
W: I guess so, especially here in New Zealand.
Text 9
W: I had an appointment with the doctor the other day. She told me that I'm too tense.
M: Really?
W: Yes. She said I need to relax more and start taking it easy.
M: Well, you don't want that. What do you think is causing it?
W: I think it's because I changed my job. You know, when you start a new job, you have to learn so much.I think that's the main cause of the problem.
M: Did the doctor give you any medicine or anything else?
W: No. She said to get a pet, preferably a dog. Taking care of it will take my mind off things. So I'm going to have a try.
Text 10
Yesterday evening, I wanted to write something. But I couldn't find a pen. So I decided to buy one. When I rode on my bicycle across a road, I was knocked down by a truck. Instead of stopping the truck to find out what had happened, the driver drove away fast.
I was badly hurt and couldn't stand up. I even found it difficult to move. I didn't know what to do when a car stopped by my side. It was a taxi. A young driver got out of the car and asked me about the accident. Then he took me in the car to the nearest hospital as quickly as possible.
Later, I found my bike was badly damaged. It could not be used any more. I felt very sad, not only for myself, but also for my bike. I was angry at the truck driver, but I was very thankful to the car driver for saving me. He left when the doctor was taking care of me and I didn't even ask his name. What a kind driver he was!
