M: Sure. How long do you think it’s going to take? I need to pick up my daughter at school.
W: It will be about 40 minutes. If you’d like, you can come back in half an hour.
Text 2
W: You know what? Let’s eat at that Indian place tonight. I’m feeling a bit adventurous.
M: Are you sure? You don’t like spicy food, and last time you had stomach problems all night.
W: I know, but there are other things I can eat. Besides, I have always been a big believer in second chances.
Text 3
W: What’s the matter? You seem to be having trouble keeping up, which is a little unusual for you.
M: I just have a little pain in my stomach. I might have had a little too much for breakfast.
W: Next time, save the breakfast for after the workout.
Text 4
M: How was your first day? Did the students like you?
W: I don’t think the students learned a thing or two. They were too busy staring at my feet. I had on two different colors of shoes. This is why I shouldn’t have gotten dressed in dark this morning!
Text 5
M: Does it really make a difference if you put the baking soda in warm water before baking the bread?

M: Mr. Jackson is so unfair!I worked so hard on that assignment, but he only gave me a "B"!
W: Don’t be so dramatic. That’s not a bad grade at all.I can remember the last time I even got a "B" in science.
M: Well,I have to keep my grades up if I want to get accepted to Harvard.I’m so upset!
W: You need to relax. One little "B"won’t affect your grade point average, especially since you still have another half semester to go.
M: Maybe you’re right.I just have to take it one step at a time.
听下面一段对话,回答第8至第9两个小题。现在你有10秒钟的时间阅读这两个小题。
Text 7
W: There’s a football game tonight,so the parking lot will be closed. We can leave work early.Would you like to go for a bike ride with me?
M: Tonight?Have you seen the weather report?
W: No,why?
M: There is supposed to be a big storm. The forecast this morning predicted heavy rain.
W: Then maybe the football game will be canceled.
M: I doubt it.Rain or shine,those guys will play.There’s big money in football,you know.
W: I say rain or shine, those guys are crazy.Well,I still want to do something tonight. What are you going to do?
M: I’ll probably watch the football game.
W: Are you serious?You’ll catch a cold!
M: I’m pretty sure it’ll be on TV,Shelly.
W: Well, count me out.I’m going to the mall.
听下面一段对话,回答第10至第12三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
Text 8
W: Your father and I feel that it’s about time you got out there and found yourself a job.Have you completed your résumé yet?
M: Yeah, kind of, although I’m not really sure how effective it is. I don’t have any experience to speak of.
W: That’s okay. Most people at your age don’t have any experience, either. Right now, you’re looking for an entry-level job, and most of the other résumés they will be looking at will be just like yours.
M: I didn’t know what to put under the "Objective"heading, so I just wrote,?"To get a job so I can make some extra money."
W: Well, that’s not a bad start, but you probably want to be a bit more formal than that. How about "to find part-time employment in a fun and challenging environment, and to gain valuable experience in the workplace"?
M: OK, now what should I write under "Skills and Attributes"?
W: Instead of writing "I always have good ideas", maybe just use the word "creative" instead. And "I am good at many different things" definitely has to be changed as well.
听下面一段对话,回答第13至第16四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
Text 9
W: Hi Michael. Take a seat. I’ve called you in here to answer some questions you may have concerning your career planning.
M: OK. But I really don’t know what to tell you. I might take a year off after graduation to decide what I want to do.
W: That’s fine. Some people like to do that. But at some point, you need to make a decision about what you want for your future. What about work? Do you have a job,or do you plan on getting one anytime soon?
M: My dad works as a vet,and I help out sometimes on weekends. This summer,I’m applying to a golf course.
W: That’s good. Oh, I see your physical education grades are really high. Would you like to continue on with something in that field?
M: Yeah, that sounds cool. Like what?
W: You could be a P.E.teacher. There are also many jobs in event organization, sports injury and training, or if you want to work with professional athletes, you could be an agent.
M: My grades are too low, though. None of the universities will accept me.
W: That’s not true. And we can help guide you to one that would be most appropriate for you.
M: Really?
W: Of course. Why don’t you fill out this form and give me some more information? Then we can look at all the options available to you.
听下面一段材料,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
Text 10
Kevin has been using the Pomodoro Technique to help manage his time. The technique was invented by an Italian man who named it after a tomato-shaped timer his mother used when she was cooking. Pomodoro is Italian for "tomato".This timer is the key to being productive without wasting time. Offices and factories might use this technique for work, but Kevin uses it to study. First,he breaks his work up into separate jobs, and then he uses a timer to separate his time into periods of busy work and short breaks. For example, when he writes an essay, he thinks about the stages of the task and writes a to-do list. Then he sets the timer to 25 minutes and starts working on the first item on the list. When the timer goes off, he takes a break of three to five minutes. He moves around during the break, and of course, he crosses the task off on his list. Then he starts another 25-minute work period. Do you want to try the Pomodoro Technique? Be sure to use a kitchen timer. If you use the timer on your phone, you’ll get distracted. In fact, Kevin turns his phone off when he studies. The method works because it keeps Kevin from wasting time. The short periods of work allow Kevin to concentrate, and he gets his homework done faster than before.
