Many Chinese people believe that some numbers will make them lucky or unlucky. For example, they think the number 8 is the luckiest number. It means making money. That's why the Beijing Olympics began at 8:08 p.m. on August 8, 2008. The number 9 is also a lucky number. The number 9 means "long lasting". That's why a man shows love to a woman with 99 or 999 roses.

What's a "bad luck" number in China? Chinese people see 4 as a "bad luck" number because it sounds like the word "death", which means someone is going to die. Besides, the number 13 is unlucky in many Western countries.
