W: How was your holiday?

M: Good. Cycling on the paths through the mountains was really exciting. We also got to go windsurfing on a lake near the hotel. It was kind of challenging, but it felt great.

W: Congratulations, John. I heard about your new job.

M: Thanks. It’s nearly perfect for me. The working hours are flexible and it’s an easy walk from my home to the company. If only the pay were as good as everything else.

M: Hi, Linda. I’ll have to work in the office until about 6. Could you go to the cinema earlier to get the tickets? There won’t be enough time for a snack at the cafe first as we have planned, but let’s meet there anyway.

W: OK. That’s better than me waiting for you in the street.

M: Excuse me, are you Lisa Evans? My teacher Mr. Smith said that I should speak with you before I carry out an experiment.

W: Yes. First time in the lab?

M: Well, it’s quite different from what I usually do. I doubt whether I’ll be able to help but it’s worth a try.

W: Hello, everyone. In today’s show, we have Dominic Smith as our guest. Let’s welcome him!

M: Thank you, Catherine. It’s a great honor to be here today.

W: Dominic, as a writer, was it difficult to get your first work published?

M: Yes, I sent it to a publisher called ABC Press but the publisher sent it back to me, saying the way it was written was very original and that the story was amazing, but the publisher was unwilling to publish it because it was rather a thick book. It was too long.

W: Oh, what a pity! What did you like reading as a child? 

M: My mother was a history teacher and she always read stories to me about historical characters. Those were my bedtime stories! She made me get into that habit. I also went through a period when I liked reading poems, but by that time I was a teenager. 

W: Have you ever thought of having your book series made into a film?

M: No. Some people seem to think I’m dying to win awards. But that means nothing to me. I think I need to do something different to recharge my batteries. So I’ll go to college to continue my education. 

W: Any advice to the readers?

M: Ignore what reviews say. Some readers like to know a writer’s books by some reviews. I’m against that approach. A more reliable method is to scan through the first few pages of the book to see if it holds your attention.

All right, everyone. Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. I hope you’re ready for the trip of a lifetime. I know that everyone had a bit of downtime yesterday at the hotel, so hopefully you’re well-rested and ready for a busy day. Before we start our trip to Mount Qomolangma base camp, we’ll spend two days touring the city and applying for hiking permits. As you all know, on Saturday, we’ll fly to a small airport in Lukla. There, we’ll begin our trip to Mount Qomolangma base camp and come back around two weeks from now. Of course, the real concern is climbing over 5,000 meters above sea level to the base camp. Many people have difficulty dealing with the lack of oxygen. So we will constantly remind everyone to slowly climb up the mountain. After our trip, we’ll all return  here for the celebration of our completed trip. Now, my partner will show you around the friendly and exciting city of Kathmandu. Here you’ll experience one of the world’s best markets. I’ll meet up with you all this evening after I’ve arranged everyone’s permit in the tourism department.
