W: Hi, Adam！Where are you going for your summer vacation?

M: To Italy for sightseeing. I will stay in Rome for two days and then fly to Milan. My last stop is Venice where I’ll stay for three days. After that I’ll  take the flight back.

M: You drive too fast! You will be fined for speeding. Here is the ticket.

W: I’m sorry, sir. I’m trying to rush to the airport. My flight is departing. I promise not to do this again in future.

W: The coat is so beautiful. If I had enough money, I would buy it.

M: Well, if you spent your money more carefully and wisely, you would afford to buy it.

W: That’s easier said than done.

M: Mary, you are going to miss the deadline. Your paper is due on February 1st.

W: Sorry, Mr. Jones. Can I beg you for three more days?

M: OK. Do not miss it again.

W: Hi, John. I heard you’ve managed to book tables at Blue Shark for the party. 

M: Yes. Blue Shark is a nice eating place, which is quite popular among young people.

M: The steak and dessert are their specials. We must not miss them. 

W: Sure. By the way, how did you make it? It’s always crowded at weekends and reservations should be made one week earlier. 

M: I’m not sure about that. Now he is in Tokyo on business. We should talk about it with him when he returns.

W: So for these Asian students, it’s a shock that hearing their teachers’ names are called, right?

M: Yes. And they are also shocked when someone challenges or questions what teachers have said in public. That’s unimaginable in their traditional class. Americans are surprised to see people in some areas share food in the same plate. That’s also culture shock. But not all people feel the same.

W: I see. Culture shock is unavoidable. Some people might find it hard to deal with, while others hardly notice it.

M: Absolutely! The cultural background plays an important role when it comes to that. There is no right or wrong. Different cultures, different ideas. 

Welcome to the exhibition of clubs. A club is a spot where a group of people get together regularly for a particular activity. Various kinds of clubs will be introduced next. I hope you will enjoy them. First, let’s come to the section of social clubs. Social clubs provide space and time for people to have social get-togethers. They usually have a bar where members can sit and talk to each other. Since people are more likely to feel comfortable with those who have similar experiences, members of a club often come from the same social background. Next, let’s turn to the sports clubs. Many sports clubs hold parties and arrange social events, as well as providing equipment for various sports. Of all the sports clubs, the football club has the most followers. Other sports clubs include those for tennis, volleyball and cycling. The following are clubs of  a special kind: working men’s clubs. In Britain, working men’s clubs are set up for men doing labor jobs. The clubs, mainly in central and northern England, offer a range of entertainment as well as a bar.
