W: Hi, Adam!Where are you going for your summer vacation?
M: To Italy for sightseeing. I will stay in Rome for two days and then fly to Milan. My last stop is Venice where I’ll stay for three days. After that I’ll take the flight back.
M: You drive too fast! You will be fined for speeding. Here is the ticket.
W: I’m sorry, sir. I’m trying to rush to the airport. My flight is departing. I promise not to do this again in future.
W: The coat is so beautiful. If I had enough money, I would buy it.
M: Well, if you spent your money more carefully and wisely, you would afford to buy it.
W: That’s easier said than done.
M: Mary, you are going to miss the deadline. Your paper is due on February 1st.
W: Sorry, Mr. Jones. Can I beg you for three more days?
M: OK. Do not miss it again.

M: Yes. Blue Shark is a nice eating place, which is quite popular among young people.
W: Exactly! Lots of people like the food and atmosphere there, even if it costs a fortune. I went there with friends once.
M: The steak and dessert are their specials. We must not miss them.
W: Sure. By the way, how did you make it? It’s always crowded at weekends and reservations should be made one week earlier.
M: In fact, that owes to one of my relatives, Carol. She works there.
听下面一段对话,回答第8至第10三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
M: The chairman wants us to decide who will be sent to run the branch office as soon as possible.
W: Let me see. I think Bell is the best choice. He is the only one among the three who can speak Spanish, which is very important.
M: That’s true. But he joined our company just one year ago.
W: Well, Shelly has been with us for five years, but she can’t move to Madrid. Spain is too far. She has children in school and her husband works here in California.
M: I see your point. Then comes Jack. He is single and he has three years’ working experience. He also has high adaptability.
W: That couldn’t be better. When can he get ready?
M: I’m not sure about that. Now he is in Tokyo on business. We should talk about it with him when he returns.
听下面一段对话,回答第11至第13三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
M: Hi, Tracy. This is Jeff. I’m not feeling myself today. I am afraid that I have to call off our dinner tonight
W: My goodness! What’s the matter with you, Jeff?
M: I feel terrible. I have a headache and my nose is running. And I can’t help coughing.
W: It sounds like you have a bad cold. You should rest.
M: I guess so. Then can we make it another day? How about this Friday evening?
W: Actually I have agreed to go to the cinema with Daniel that evening, but Saturday is OK for me.
M: Well, is Sunday convenient for you? I have planned to see my grandparents on Saturday.
W: It will be fine. Let’s meet then. Would you like me to send you some medicine?
M: No, thanks. It’s so kind of you. Some hot soup and a sound sleep would be enough. Hopefully I will get back in shape when I wake up tomorrow morning.
听下面一段对话,回答第14至第17四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
W: Good evening, everyone. We will have Professor Higgins share something about culture shock tonight. Can you tell us some phenomena reflecting it, professor?
M: Let’s say, in some Asian countries, students never directly call their teachers by name, because it’s not respectful to teachers. While in America, it’s quite common.
W: So for these Asian students, it’s a shock that hearing their teachers’ names are called, right?
M: Yes. And they are also shocked when someone challenges or questions what teachers have said in public. That’s unimaginable in their traditional class. Americans are surprised to see people in some areas share food in the same plate. That’s also culture shock. But not all people feel the same.
W: I see. Culture shock is unavoidable. Some people might find it hard to deal with, while others hardly notice it.
M: Absolutely! The cultural background plays an important role when it comes to that. There is no right or wrong. Different cultures, different ideas.
W: Thanks, Professor Higgins. Thank you very much for coming to our show and bringing us such an interesting topic.
听下面一段独白,回答第18至第20三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
Welcome to the exhibition of clubs. A club is a spot where a group of people get together regularly for a particular activity. Various kinds of clubs will be introduced next. I hope you will enjoy them. First, let’s come to the section of social clubs. Social clubs provide space and time for people to have social get-togethers. They usually have a bar where members can sit and talk to each other. Since people are more likely to feel comfortable with those who have similar experiences, members of a club often come from the same social background. Next, let’s turn to the sports clubs. Many sports clubs hold parties and arrange social events, as well as providing equipment for various sports. Of all the sports clubs, the football club has the most followers. Other sports clubs include those for tennis, volleyball and cycling. The following are clubs of a special kind: working men’s clubs. In Britain, working men’s clubs are set up for men doing labor jobs. The clubs, mainly in central and northern England, offer a range of entertainment as well as a bar.
