W: David, what's your plan for this weekend?
M: I was planning to go hiking, but Wang Peng invited me to join in his special activity — boiling and enjoying tea around a stove with some new friends.
W: Wow! You can't miss it. The activity is very popular among young Chinese. And it's super fun!
M: Yes. That's why I can't wait to sit around and bake tea in pottery pots on fire.
W: While boiling the tea, friends chat with each other and bake fruits over the fire. It provides a chance for you to enjoy Chinese lifestyle. To fit in with the traditional surroundings, you can dress up in Hanfu clothes.
M: That's cool!

W: Waiter, can you come here for a moment?
M: Yes, madam, is there something wrong?
W: I'm afraid you've made a mistake. This isn't what I ordered.
M: Are you sure? You did order a steak and a salad.
W: Yes, I did, but I did also mention that I'm allergic to milk, so I want a clean salad without any topping.
M: So sorry about that. I must have confused the orders. I'll change it for you.
W: And also, this soup is cold.
M: I'm really sorry. I'll bring you a hot one right away.

M: How many people have registered for the Western Civilization class this term?
W: So far, 36 students have registered, and I've got the name list of them.
M: Much more than you expected.
W: Yeah. I thought there wouldn't be more than 20. However, the classroom I applied will only hold 40 students, and there is still another week open for students to sign up.
M: So you'd better apply for another classroom.
W: I know, but I'm afraid larger classrooms are not available at the moment. That's what made me upset.
M: Maybe you should check with our department head and see if she could help. She's fairly flexible on matters like this.
W: Thanks for your advice.Do you happen to know what her office hours are? I'd like to stop by and speak with her in person.
M: Wait a moment. Let me see...

M: Welcome to Person Interview Show. Today we have Liu Yang, China's first female astronaut, to share her space experiences. So, Ms Liu, can you tell us how you became an astronaut?
W: I dreamed of it when I was a 6-year-old girl. Our teacher shared with us a lot about the universe. Then I worked hard and trained for 15 years to fly planes and then a spacecraft.
M: Can you tell us your most exciting moment?
W: It was when I was chosen as an astronaut. You know, many requirements must be met — a certain size, a certain weight, a certain age and so many things. And I also felt excited when I first wore my spacesuit because I knew I was really on my way then.
M: What was your most difficult part of your journey?
W: The pull of gravity was the most powerful when we left the Earth's atmosphere. We were heavily pushed back into our seats and couldn't even talk. When we got into the space, we floated weightlessly around in our spacecraft because the gravity had disappeared.
M: It must have been interesting, right?
W: Yes, but it caused a new problem. We had to watch out when eating. We had to use specially made space food so as to prevent our food from floating away. Then it was very frightening when we returned to the Earth. Fire broke out on the outside of the spacecraft as the Earth's gravity increased.
M: You really had an exciting but challenging experience. Thank you for sharing with us, Ms Liu.

M: Welcome to Haybridge Hall. I'd like to introduce the history of the house to you.
Haybridge Hall was established at the end of the 15th century. The name Haybridge was first used by the Yardley family, who bought the house and owned it for some 200 years. The Yardleys turned the area around it into farmland.
In 1722 the place was left empty. After over 60 years, the famous local writer William Hoaten bought Haybridge Hall and spent three years and a large amount of money repairing it. The Hoaten family stayed at Haybridge Hall until the beginning of World War Ⅱ, when the British army took it over. After the war, the surviving members of the Hoaten family abandoned living in Haybridge Hall because it would be costly to move back into it. And so Haybridge Hall came to be owned by English Heritage, which cost over 10 million dollars to make some repair work in the 1970s. Haybridge Hall remains one of the finest examples of British architecture to this day and the decorations within give you a good idea of what country life was like three or four centuries ago in this country.
