W:What do you think of those Americans in our class?I think most of them are nice.
M: I think so too. A few of them are rude, though.
Text 2
M:Hello! How are you today?
W: Hi! I just had a test and I'm not sure how well or how badly I did.
M: There is nothing to worry about. You're always a good student.
Text 3
M:I used to hate math, but I've done much better since we had that new teacher.
W: I don't enjoy the classes with the new teacher. Although he's really good at explaining, he goes too far and makes it a bit too hard.
Text 4
M:Good afternoon. Do you still serve lunch at this time?
W: Yes.How many of you would like to eat here?
M: Two.
Text 5
M:Hello, Fiona.This is a fantastic party, isn't it?
W: Oh, hi, Jerry. Of course.
M: Fiona, you look upset. You know, it's New Year's Eve, and you should be enjoying yourself.
Text 6
W:Can I help you?
M: Yes, ma'am. I'm doing some research on the history of the civilization along the Nile River. Do you have any books on the subject?
W: Those books over there are about ancient history of almost all the countries along the Nile River. They might be helpful.
M: Can I check this one out?
W: I'm sorry. It's for reference only, so it must stay in the library. But you're welcome to look through it here in the reading room.
M: OK. And I'd like to check these books out.
W: All right. They're due back next Wednesday.
M: Thanks for your help.
W: You're welcome, young man. Have a nice day!

W:Hi, John! Haven't seen you for days. What are you engaged in?
M: Nothing special. I've only been preparing for my final exams. How about you?
W: An interesting experience. Last week, my friend and I went to different restaurants and had a different dish in each one. First a Chinese restaurant to eat Beijing Roast Duck, and then a French place for the famous onion soup. After that we stopped at a Japanese one for the main dish.
M: It sounds like a world tour.
W: There is something more interesting. At an Italian coffee shop, we tasted different desserts.
M: Wonderful! My mouth is watering already! Next time you do something like that, please include me.

W:Come with me to my office, David. I want to talk to you... I've been told that you did not go to classes last week. Could you tell me why?
M: Well, I just didn't feel like being in class.
W: Hmm, that's strange. You know, David, all the teachers say you're a very good student. How come you suddenly didn't go to classes for a whole week? Was there something wrong?
M: Well, my parents have been arguing all week long. I could hear them from my room even with the door closed.I couldn't focus on my homework and all I could think about was their shouting.
W: I see. So where did you go last week?
M: I went to an Internet café to chat with a friend of mine.
W: OK, I don't blame you, David. But next time you have a problem like this, come to me first. It doesn't help to skip classes. I think I'll talk to your parents tomorrow.

M:Good morning. I'm thinking about buying some new furniture for my living room. Could you help me?
W: Certainly. As you can see, we have several three-piece suite sofas on sale. Feel free to sit down and test how comfortable they are.
M: I came to your store yesterday and come back today to make a final decision. I think I like the black leather living room set. It's on sale, isn't it?
W: Yes.The price has been reduced by 50%.It's a real bargain.
M: I'll take it. I also need to improve the lighting in my living room. Do you have any suggestions?
W: Those floor lamps are very nice and you can vary the brightness according to whether you're reading or watching TV. How big is your living room?
M: It's quite large. It's about 40 square meters.
W: I'd suggest you buy two. That allows you to change the brightness of the room better.
M: OK. I like the design of these lamps.I also need some table covers.I'll just browse through those ones over there.

Good morning, and welcome to England. We hope that your visit here will be a pleasant one.Today, I would like to draw your attention to a few of our laws. The first one is about drinking. You may not buy alcohol in this country if you are under 18 years of age.Secondly, smoking. It is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you are under 16 years of age.Thirdly, crossing the road. Be careful. The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country.Use the crosswalks and don't take any risks when crossing the road.My last point is about litter. It's against the law to throw away waste material in a public place. When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a litter bin.I'd like to finish by saying that if you need any sort of help, you should get in touch with the local police officer, who will be pleased to help you. Now, are there any questions?
