Text 1
M: Would you like green tea or black tea?
W: No, thanks. I used to like tea very much, but now I would like coffee.
Text 2
M: When does the last bus leave?
W: You've just missed it by 10 minutes. The last bus left at half past eight.
Text 3
M: The plane is supposed to land at half past nine.
W: I believe so, but it's almost ten.
Text 4
M: Hi, what are you busy doing at home?
W: Nothing special, just watching a movie at home. I think it is the most exciting film I’ve ever seen.
Text 5
M: If I were twenty years younger, I would be more hard-working than I used to be.
W: It's useless to regret it.
Text 6
M: It's a beautiful song they are playing, isn't it?
W: Yes, wonderful.
M:Do you like pop music?
W: Oh, yeah. What about you?
M:Me too. How do you like rock and roll?
W: I'm not really crazy about it.
M: Neither am I. Do you often go to those concerts?
W: No. I like listening to them at home. I can't stand crowds of pushing people.
M: I know what you mean.

M: Good morning, I want to buy a car.
W: Good morning, sir. What type of car do you want?
M: Well, I’ve got a small family, my wife and two children.
W: Do you drive a lot?
M: No, not really. And I haven’t got much money. I want a small, cheap and comfortable car.
W: Well, I’ve just got the car for you. Look at this one, please.
M: It’s very beautiful.
W: It’s small and cheap. And it doesn’t use very much petrol.
M: It seems to be a good choice. Tell me more about it, please.
Text 8
W:Come in, please!
M:Hello, Miss Gao. I'm sorry to trouble you.
W:Not at all. Sit down, please. Would you like a cup of tea?
M:Yes, please. Thank you.
W:What can I do for you?
M: I've come here to ask about my son Tom's progress.
W:OK. Tom is a clever boy, especially in math and English, but he doesn't work hard at some subjects, I'm afraid.
M:What subjects is he weak in?
W:He is weak in Chinese.
M: Is he? What can I do? Can you help him?
W:I will encourage him to study harder than before. I will also teach him to study Chinese and Science out of class.
M: Thank you very much.
W: You're welcome.
Text 9
M: Have you looked at this application yet?
W: The one from Colson, you mean? Yeah, just read it.
M: Has he ever worked on a newspaper before?
W: No, not exactly, but he used to work for a magazine when he was in college.
M: Well. And what did he do after he graduated from college?
W: He went off to Thailand.
M: Oh, really? What did he do there?
W: He was an English teacher in the Peace Corps and while he was teaching there, he wrote some really fine articles.
M: Oh, and what's he been doing since then?
W: He's been working as a journalist for the past three years.
M: Um, sounds pretty good.

W: My roommate Jenny and I traveled to New York this summer. We arrived in early June and moved into an apartment near Columbia University with our friend Michelle. Right away, we explored the restaurants and museums near our apartment. Our favorite restaurant was called Red Rooster. However, each day, we went out a bit farther to see all that we could. During our second week, we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and had an amazing view of the city. We took many photos to share with our friends in Beijing. The following weekend, we took a boat to see the Statue of Liberty. The statue was much smaller than I had imagined, but Jenny was very impressed. A few days before we left, Michelle's parents drove up from Connecticut and took us to see a Broadway play. I love theatre, so this was probably my favorite part of the trip. Jenny and I were sad to leave New York, but on the plane ride home, we began to discuss our next vacation, and that was quite exciting. She wanted to visit Italy, but I finally made her believe that we would have even more fun in Thailand!
