M: Oh, sure, dear. When is it? 

W: Well, just the last day of June. Easy to remember, right? 

W: I often mistake Nancy for Kate. Can you tell them apart? 

M: No.They look so alike that even their parents could not tell them apart sometimes when they were young.

W: How about yesterday’s volleyball match, Tom? 

M: Oh, I would have liked to see it, but my neighbor Jack fell ill. So I went to the hospital with him and stayed there the whole day. 

W: You promised no matter what I ask you to do, you would agree. I would like you to tell me something about British history. 

M: Don't ask me ─ I'm not too hot on British history. You can go to the library to borrow some books on it.

W: I need a bike to go to work. How much is the blue one?

M: It is the cheapest one we have, and it is 200 dollars. But if you want a higher-quality one, consider this red one, which costs 220 dollars.

W: Thanks, the cheaper one is suitable. I also want the helmet that costs 30 dollars.

M: Mummy, let me tell you a big surprise! A new exchange student, Peter, came to our school. 

W: Really? Have you ever talked to him?

M: Yeah, a few times. He speaks Chinese very well and he is pretty outgoing. He likes music, and he once played the guitar and sang Chinese folk songs in the school band. He is going to spend most of his spare time on Chinese paintings.  

W: Amazing. Can you tell me something more about his family? 

M: Sure. His mother is  Chinese and his father is from France. But they live in Canada at present.

M: Do I need to go for an X-ray? 

W: Yes, the dentist suggests taking an X-ray of teeth every year. However, if you'd prefer not to have an X-ray, you can choose not to. 

M: I will because I'd like to make sure everything is OK. 

W: Great. Please have a seat and Dr. Peterson will be with you in a moment.

Community service is an important part of education here at our university. We encourage all students to volunteer for at least one community activity before they graduate. A new community program called "One on One" aims to help primary school students who've fallen behind. Your major might make you especially interested in it because it offers the opportunity to do some teaching — that is, tutoring these students in math and English. You'd have to volunteer two hours a week for one term. You can choose to help a child with math, English, or both. Half-hour lessons are fine, so you could give guidance on each subject for half an hour two days a week. Professor Smith will act as an instructor for the tutors. He'll help you with lesson plans or  offer suggestions for activities. His office hours are from 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. You can sign up for the program and begin tutoring next week. I'm sure you'll enjoy this program and you are sure to gain valuable experience too. These will be your advantage if you have experience with children and care about your community. For further information, stop by Professor Smith's office this week.
