Text 1
W: What would you like to have, sir?
M: Well, a cup of Coke and a hamburger, please.
Text 2
W: Well, so many people! The bus is too crowded. Why not wait here for a few minutes and I'll get my car, Jack?
M: No, thank you. I'd better take the bus home. See you tomorrow.
Text 3
M: How about going to the theatre tonight, Susan?
W: Sorry, I can't. My sister is going to Boston and I have to drive her to the airport.
Text 4
M: How many hours will I work?
W: Ten hours a week. Monday through Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm. And 150 yuan a week.
Text 5
W: Did you finish the exam?
M: Yes. And I've never had an easier one in my life.
W: Really? Why do you think so? But I felt it was a bit difficult.
Text 6
M: So, what kind of interests do you have?
W: Interests? Well, I like playing a lot of sports and I play the piano.
M: What sort of sports do you like?
W: Basketball, tennis and swimming. I like skiing as well.
M: Right. And what sort of music do you play on the piano?
W: Oh. Classical, jazz and blues.
M: Right. What experience have you had with children?
W: Well. I've worked with children in a youth club. And I also worked as a volunteer to help teenagers to organize things they're interested in.
M: That's wonderful. Have you got any questions?
W: Er, what are the working hours?
M: Well, they're a bit flexible.
Text 7
M: Hello, Mrs. Jenkins. This is the police office. You reported a break-in just now?
W: Yes, I did.
M: We need a little more information about it.
W: OK.
M: What time did it happen?
W: Well, it must have been sometime between 12:00 and 15:15 because I was at home by noon and then I went to the supermarket. I went back from there at about a quarter past three.
M: What did they take?
W: Er, what I know now is some jewelry and some cash.
M: How much is it about?
W: Well, they’ve taken 240 dollars in cash and the jewelry is worth 800 dollars in all.
M: OK. You’d better make a list. By the way, did you have any of your belongings marked?
W: I don’t know. Maybe I’ll have to ask my husband about it.
M: Where is your husband now?
W: He’s on a trip to Switzerland and I haven’t told him about the robbery yet.
Text 8
W: Sorry, I can’t see the film with you after school tomorrow.
M: Yes?
W: I just asked my mum. I don’t know the reason why she said I had to go home after school. Sorry!
M: That’s okay. My mum also said no! She told me that the school day is the time when I can see my friends. After school I should go home because it is the place where we spend time together.
W: My mum says things like that too. She always wants me to stay home with her and my dad, or to go with her to visit my grandparents. But the village in which they live is very boring! When we visit them, there is nothing for me to do.
M: I have much to do when I visit my grandparents. My grandfather was a good artist when he was young. I like to visit them because my grandfather gives me very good painting lessons.
W: Oh, I know little about my grandparents. Maybe I can find something interesting on them.

W: Well, I'm really worried about how I'm going to deal with university life. Maybe if I knew the university a bit better, that might help.
M: Do you have a map of the university?
W: Yes.
M: Well, let's look at it together. OK, we are here now in Dalton House. Opposite this building is the Arts Block where you will find the computers. The computer rooms are open from 9:00 am till 8:00 pm on weekdays.
W: Fine.
M: Another important building is the students' union. To get to the students' union you keep going down this road, past the Science Block on your left. Opposite the Science Block is the Chemistry Lab and the students' union is just on the right, next to the Lab B.
W: Fine. But I get a bit confused about the directions.
M: Probably the best thing to do is to walk around and make yourself familiar with everything. Now I need you to fill in this form. Take it away with you and then make an appointment to see me again and we'll go over it. My telephone number is on the form. You can ring me anytime, except on Thursday.
