W: Mike, how can you pay attention to your study while listening to such loud music?
M: This is my learning method, Mom. What I'm listening to is a type of music called baroque music, which is said to help improve memory. There is a scientific basis for this.
W: I'm not sure about the science behind it, but I'll look into it later.

M: That makes two of us!
W: The last time I went to a music festival was three years ago.
M: Didn't you attend one in Xiamen at this time last year?
W: Oh, yes. I forgot it. I was only there for a moment. Well, there is a free face-painting service. I'd like to try it. The sun painted on that girl's face is beautiful.
M: I want the cloud pattern. What about you?
W: I have a thing for roses these days, you know.
M: OK. Let's go.

M: Researchers from Johns Hopkins University conducted a study that challenges the idea of needing 10,000 steps a day for health. Have you heard about it, Lily?
W: No. What's the new recommended number of steps?
M: Taking 4,000 steps a day can be the key to a long and healthy life.
W: Is it a magical number for everyone to aim for?
M: No. The study author Dr. Seth Shay Martin cautioned against viewing it as a fixed goal. He mentioned,“I wouldn't want people to walk that exact step count. More is better."
W: Got it. There's room to do more if you're able to. How did the researchers come to the conclusion?
M: They collected health and exercise data from over 225,000 adults worldwide over a span of 7 years. Some participants were in good health, while others suffered from heart problems.
W: I see.

W: Hey, Carl. I called you a few times, but you didn't respond to me. I thought you were listening to music on your earphones. But now it looks like I woke you up.
M: Hi, Aileen. I just fell asleep because I was so bored. Are you fishing here, too?
W: No. My grandpa does it here. And I just follow him. I found you when I was using the camera on that wooden bridge.
M: How did you notice me at such a distance?
W: Your bright yellow jacket is hard for me to ignore. I used my camera to get a closer look and then your blue hat came into my sight.
M: I see. Well, where is your grandpa?
W: He's over there.
M: Your grandpa must be very good at fishing. His equipment looks very professional.
W: Yes. He usually catches a lot of fish. But I haven't seen a smile on my grandpa's face today. He doesn't seem to have picked a good position.

W: I'm going camping with my friends this weekend.
M: Great! Where are you camping?
W: We're going to Mount Rainier National Park in Washington.
M: It's a really nice campground. I've been there before. Have you packed your stuff?
W: Not yet. What do you think I should pack?
M: A tent, a sleeping bag, a compass, a flashlight and a knife. It occurs to me that you should bring your rain jacket as well. The weatherman said it might rain this Saturday afternoon.
W: Oh, no! I hate camping in the rain.
M: Don't worry. It's supposed to clear up by evening.
W: I guess it will be beautiful there in the evening.
M: Indeed. The park takes on breathtaking beauty at night. The stars twinkle brilliantly in the sky, and you can enjoy the soothing sounds of nature.
W: Your words have filled me with such anticipation for the trip.

W: In late June, the US government agreed to allow 2 companies, UPSIDE Foods and GOOD Meat, to sell chicken meat that has been grown in a laboratory. That makes the US become the second country, after Singapore, to approve lab-grown chicken meat.
Lab-grown meat is a meat product developed from animal cells that are grown in a lab. The first cells come from live animals. In this case, experts choose cells that can grow quickly and will have a good flavor. The companies say that their meat is better for the environment than the meat from animals. Raising animals for food creates about 15% of the world's greenhouse gases. At the same time, raising animals for food is extremely hard on animals. They are often kept in small spaces and are treated badly.
There are many companies that focus on making plant-based meat substitutes. But since lab-grown meat is made from animal cells, it is very hard to tell lab-grown meat apart from actual meat. It looks, smells and tastes like chicken.
Surveys have shown that many people aren't interested in lab-grown meat. Right now, the meat is far more expensive than the meat from animals. Now that the companies have been approved, they have the huge challenge of figuring out how to make much more meat far more cheaply. For now, the lab-grown meat is mainly served in expensive restaurants.
