Our first winter in Finland was the happiest one we had ever experienced. We were living in the countryside then and had just arrived from Australia that autumn. One evening in mid-December snow began to fall. When we looked out of the window and saw that it was snowing, we all felt very excited. It was the first snow we had ever seen. By the way, we had stayed in China in winter without seeing snow. 

The next morning when we woke up, it was still snowing. We turned on the radio and learned that more than ten inches of snow had fallen during the night and that since there was too much snow on the road students would not need to go to school that day. I jumped up and down with joy and asked Mum to let me go outside to play in the snow. She promised me that I could go out after breakfast if I dressed myself warmly and required me to come back as soon as I felt cold. When I went out, the snow had almost stopped. The roads, gardens and playgrounds were all hidden under soft white snow. It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. 
