Text 1

M: I'm sorry, but I won't be on time, Alice. I have to give a key to my mom.

W: Never mind. We will wait for you at the bus station.

Text 2

M: Let's see what drinks you've got for the party tonight.

W: Everything, beer, wine, soft drinks like Coke, Seven-Up — you name it, I've got it. Have you ordered the cake?

M: Of course.

Text 3

W: I went to see the movie Nezha last night. It's fantastic. I'm really excited about it. Have you seen it, Bob?

M: Yes, I have. Sure it's amusing, but I don't think it is so perfect. To be honest, I like the old 1979 version better.

Text 4

W: Good afternoon, sir. What can I do for you?

M: Some friends are coming for dinner this evening. I want to book three tables for four, please.

Text 5

W: You are always throwing your books everywhere! And your shoes are all over the floor.

M: OK. I'll pile books up on the desk and put away the shoes in the box.

W: Be quick, or we'll be late for the movie.

Text 6

W: Hello. This is Christina.

M: Hi, Christina. It's me, Ken.

W: Hi, Ken, how are you doing?

M: Oh, not bad. I wonder if you are doing anything on Saturday night.

W: No, nothing special. Why?

M: Well, do you feel like going to the concert?

W: Oh, that's a wonderful idea. I like music.

M: Great. What about having a pizza first?

W: Sure, why not? Where shall we meet?

M: How about me picking you up at your house?

W: OK. What time?

M: The concert begins at eight. Is seven o'clock OK?

W: Fine. Well, see you at seven.

M: All right. See you later.

Text 7

M: We have so many subjects. What's your favorite subject?

W: Maths, I think. What about you?

M: I prefer English to maths. Maths is too difficult for me. I'd rather read English for hours than do maths problems for minutes.

W: Are you interested in English so much?

M: No, not really. My English teacher is so pretty a lady that every boy in my class likes her and her classes.

W: Oh, I see. What's your favorite sport then?

M: Swimming. I once tried basketball and volleyball, but I like swimming best. And what about you?

W: Me, too.

Text 8

M: Hi. My name's Jonathan.

W: Hi. I'm Grace.

M: Nice to meet you, Grace. Are you here with Teresa?

W: Yeah, she's an old friend from college. I'm staying with her until I find my own place. She invited me along because I don't know many people in town.

M: Great. You'll get to know everyone here soon.

W: That's good.

M: So, did you just move here?

W: Yes, I just started a new job here in a French language school. I speak French fluently.

M: Really? I've been thinking of studying French.

W: Oh! Well, let me give you my card. Call me if you want to know more.

M: Great. Thanks. Well, in the meantime, enjoy the party.

W: You, too.

Text 9

M: Hi, it's Charles Nelson. I have a reservation for tonight.

W: Hmm...Nelson. You have booked a room for five, right?

M: No, no. Hold on. There must be some mistake.

W: Okay. Let's check...Here, Mr. Charles C. Nelson for tonight...

M: Ah, my name is Charles Nelson, not Charles C. Nelson.

W: I'm sorry. Let me check this again. Oh, yes. Charles Nelson, a room for one for the 19th of May.

M: No, a room for tonight, not for tomorrow evening.

W: I'm really sorry, but I don't think we have any rooms for tonight. Well, let me check my computer here. Ah! There has been a cancellation for this evening. A honeymoon room is now available.

M: Great. I'll take it.

W: But I'll have to charge you 250 dollars for the night. Well, the best I can give you is a 10% discount plus a ticket for a free breakfast.

M: Thank you very much!

Text 10

W: Hi, students! This is Ashley Jacobs, your student government president. I have some important information for everyone about activities on campus this year. I promise that there will be something fun for everyone to do. Do you like sports? I know everyone is a fan of our football team. And now there are two new teams at school this year. We have added a baseball team and a swim team. Or do you enjoy creative activities? The student government created an art club and a music club for people with artistic abilities. Both of these groups have events all year long. The art club hosts painting nights and trips to the local museum, and the music club goes to see shows at the concert hall. And don't forget about the school newspaper for all the writers out there! We pass out the paper every week for free on campus. Read it to keep up with all of the school news and activities that I announced. I strongly recommend that you join a student organization. It is an easy way to make good friends and have fun. Please consider joining one of these groups today.
