M: Hello Mary, this is Jack. Are you free to talk?

W: Yeah, Jack. What's the matter?

M: I'm considering buying a second-hand computer. How do you like it?

W: That's a good buy for everyday use. I don't mind if it's new or old as long as it works well.

M: Can you foresee any problems, though?

W: I think it may work slowly. A computer can be used for 5 to 7 years. But it's slow after a few years. I got my computer three years ago, and it is not as fast as before.

M: Indeed. But it's acceptable for ordinary use and it really costs less. So I think that buying a second-hand one is OK.

W: I agree. I'm finishing my dinner. I know there is a shop for second-hand devices such as tablet PCs and mobile phones near my house. Why not come to me? Then we can go there together to see if there is one worth buying.

M: Good idea.

W: Have you watched today's football game? Do you think it was pretty horrible?

M: Yeah. I thought the score would be at least 2 to 1, but it ended in a draw.

W: Maybe we shouldn't be surprised that both teams scored only one goal. Those players practise less and less. I should have gone out there and played myself.

M: You play soccer? Are you serious, Anna? I remember you once played tennis.

W: Yeah, but that was in university. I've turned to soccer. I also tried volleyball before it. Now I'm part of our company's soccer team.

M: Really? My company also has a team. We should find a chance to get together and play. Anyhow, friendship comes first, competition second.

W: OK. I can't wait to join it. We haven't played together since we graduated from university.

W: Do you sometimes feel stressed by your work, Ben?

M: Of course, Nancy! It is the No.1 stressor in my life. You know work stress has become a very common problem these days. However, people usually ignore it and then it becomes worse and worse. We must learn to deal with it.

W: I totally agree. What do you think is the reason for that?

M: Well, there are two causes. One is employee characteristics and the other is company condition. So if we want to manage the stress, both we and the companies should take action. For me, I am trying to keep a balance between work and play. You know, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

W: You seem to have a very relaxed outlook.

M: It is necessary. A positive attitude helps to prevent stress.

W: But I dont think we can transform the circumstances or situation in which we work. Anyway, we are not the bosses.

M: I heard some companies are providing stress management training and making changes inside them, like avoiding unrealistic deadlines, organizing relaxation activities and reducing internal competitions. Our boss is a smart person. He will be learning from that if he would like to have an efficient and healthy team.

France has passed a law to ban smartphones from schools. Students aged between 3 and 15 are not allowed to bring their smartphones to school. The ban is intended to prevent students from being addicted to electronics.A senior member of the government supports the ban, saying such devices are harmful to childrens development. He advocates that more attention should be paid to public health and says the law protects children from the bad mobile phone use. The new ban extends a previous law made 14 years ago in 2010 that meant students could not use their devices in lessons. There are exceptions to the ban for students with disabilities and for using devices in the classroom for the Internet activities. Many lawmakers do not believe the ban is enough to bring about change. Schools are free to choose if they will adopt the ban to regulate students above the age 15. Those against the ban say it is a backward step and will not lead to an increase in learning.
