Text 1

M: Tom just phoned me and said that he couldn't attend the party. He isn't feeling very well now.

W: So, we'll have three people absent. Lily is traveling with her parents abroad and Mike has to stay late at the office.

Text 2

M: Mary doesn't want me to take the job. She says our child is too young and the job requires much traveling.

W: You should talk to her again and see if you can find a way out.

Text 3

M: I've been invited to have dinner with Paulo and Maria this evening but I don't know what to wear. I'd also like to take a small present. Do you have any ideas?

W: Just be informal, and I'm sure they'd appreciate some flowers and maybe something from Scotland.

Text 4

W: Have you heard about the soup kitchen in our community?

M: Yeah, I heard their providing meals for those in need. Are you planning to volunteer?

W: Sure, it's a great way to give back to the community. Do you want to join me?

M: You bet.

Text 5

M: It's pouring outside. Did you get caught in the rain?

W: No, Lucy gave me a ride home.

M: The weather forecast said it's supposed to be a clear day tomorrow. That's good, right?

W: Yeah, but I hope it will be windy. I want to fly a kite.

Text 6

M: I heard you took part in the annual city marathon last week. That's awesome. I didn't know you are an athlete.

W: Thank you, but it's just a hobby. Marathons allow me to escape from my tiring work in the office.

M: Did you complete the whole course?

W: Yes. I ran a half marathon, about thirteen miles altogether. It took me about two hours.

M: Oh, I couldn't even imagine myself running that long, especially on such hot windless days.

W: The race started at nine o'clock and luckily there were enough clouds the whole morning.

Text 7

W: Hello, doctor Baker's office.

M: Hello, this is Tom Keller. I'd like to make an appointment to see the doctor as soon as possible.

W: Is it an emergency?

M: Well, I've been suffering a lot from very bad stomach pain for two days. At first I thought it would go away quickly, but now I don't think I can wait for another day.

W: You are one of doctor Baker's regular patients, aren't you?

M: Yes, I am.

W: In that case, the doctor might be able to fit you in between appointments. Why don't you come in the afternoon?

M: Thank you very much.

W: You are welcome.

Text 8

M: So, Sophia, can you tell us about your summer T-shirt company?

W: Sure. Basically, it's a T-shirt business that creates and sells T-shirts. My mom, Jackie, came up with the idea to sell T-shirts with notes of kindness to encourage people to be nice to each other.

M: That's a wonderful initiative. Were the first T-shirts successful?

W: Yes, they were. We initially aimed to sell just 40 T-shirts, but once word got out we received hundreds of orders. Even my younger brother Michael joined us, assisting in packing and shipping the T-shirts.

M: As you got better at your tasks, did the company grow?

W: Absolutely. After I graduated from college, the company expanded and became my full-time job. Last December, we bought a bigger place and hired five more employees. Our customer base has spread across all 50 states, and we now have more than 3 million social media followers.

M: Wow, your business grows really fast. May your company continue to grow.

W: Thank you!

Text 9

M: I recently read about an action to bring back traditional pottery making in rural areas. They are using skilled local artists to lead workshops.

W: That sounds wonderful. It's important to keep parts of culture like these. Are the workshops open to the public?

M: The workshops are aimed at both locals and tourists. They're combining ancient methods with modern designs. I'm sure it will be an interesting mix.

W: Can participants get to work directly with the clay?

M: Yes, indeed, they can touch and shape the clay themselves with help from the artists.

W: That must be a unique experience. What is the main purpose behind this project?

M: It's mostly about keeping this ancient knowledge alive while encouraging new appreciation among younger generations and visitors. They also hope it helps increase local tourism and keeps the pottery making tradition alive through increased interest and sales.

W: Sounds cool. Are they doing anything else? Along with it?

M: They organize seasonal shows where makers can display, enter competitions and even sell their creations. It's a great way for new artists to gain recognition.

Text 10

M: Once again we're holding our popular photography competition for children. It's open to all children between 8 and 12. Last year, the competition was about wildlife and we received many excellent photos. This year, we'd like children to focus on the sea. This is the only requirement. It doesn't matter whether your photo is in color or black and white. The size of the photos was limited to 17cm long and 12cm wide last year, but there's no limit on that this year. A team of professional photographers will judge the photos and they'll choose the four that they think show the most promise. The top winner will receive a camera, while the second prize will be free photography lessons. Those in third place will receive a photography book. If you're interested, we'd like you to post your photos to us here at Star Radio. Your photos need to reach us by the 10th of August. The results of the competition will be announced on this program on the 15th. There will be a chance to see all the photographs into the competition at an exhibition at the museum. This will start on the 20th of August and stay open until 27th.
