Unit 3B

Text 1

W: Why do you look so worried, Bob?

M: If it doesn't rain, all my crops are going to die in the fields.

Text 2

M: Dear, should we paint the room blue?

W: Hmm. I think we should paint it green. But Linda likes orange. You know, this is her room...

M: OK, as long as she likes it.

Text 3

W: George, do you exercise regularly?

M: Yeah, I go to the gym every day except Monday. Mondays are just too busy for me. What about you?

W: I work out three times a week.

Text 4

M: Okay, Madam. May I see your driver's licence, please?

W: What? Did I do anything wrong? I am wearing a seat belt. Oh, is it because one of my lights is out?

M: Madam, did you realize you were going 60 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone?

Text 5

W: Could you go to the supermarket and get some bread?

M: Can't you see I'm busy with my marketing report?

W: You are really good at finding excuses. Whenever I need your help, you always have a report to write.

Text 6

W: Miss Wang is getting married next month. What do you plan to buy for her?

M: I want to get a beautiful clock for her. She needs one for her office.

W: Hey, you can't send a clock as a gift. Don't you know that?

M: Oh, I forgot. It's a symbol of bad luck in her culture. Then what should I buy?

W: What about art paintings?

M: But she has already bought some paintings.

W: It seems to be a problem. Let me go with you to the mall tomorrow and I'll help you pick something out.

Text 7

M: Take a look at the amount of waste in the rubbish bins in our neighborhood. It's hard to believe we created so much rubbish in just a single day.

W: It's really harming the environment and we need to do something about it.

M: We should consider taking recyclable shopping bags the next time we hit the supermarket. It's a small step, but it could make a big difference.

W: Yes, I've also noticed how much takeaway packaging we have. We shouldn't order takeaways so often. We should cook for ourselves more often.Besides, eating too many takeaways isn't good for our health.

M: I agree. Let's make a change starting today. I'll make your favorite fruit salad, my favorite pork steak, and delicious beef noodles for our kids.

W: That sounds great!

Text 8

M: Helen, busy doing anything?

W: Oh, Kevin, I'm preparing a presentation for the city library. It's about a girl named Tracey Woods.

M: What's special about her?

W: It is an amazing story. She brought specially trained dogs to special education schools and helped children get rid of self-doubt. She believes that dogs can help children in ways we can't. Dogs don't care who you are or what you look like.

M: But putting dogs into a school? Aren't they going to mess up the school?

W: Don't worry. All the dogs have already had their health check-ups and been trained properly. There are now 40 dogs working with children aged from 6 to 18.

M: I hope the children love them.

W: Of course they do. I've got some pictures. I'll show them at my presentation tomorrow morning.

Text 9

W: What were you up to, John?

M: I was just reading an article about some amazing new inventions. Emily, have you heard about the flying car?

W: The flying car? That feels like something in a movie. How does it work?

M: It's real. A company has tested one. It drives like a car on roads and takes off like a plane. They say it could solve traffic problems in big cities.

W: That's good to know. What else does the article talk about?

M: There's also a smart medical robot. It uses AI to help doctors and reduce risks.

W: That is really a life-saving invention. Does it mean fewer doctors will be needed?

M: Not really. The article explains that doctors still make decisions. It's more about teamwork.

W: I love that idea. It's exciting to see that technology has been improving our daily life.

Text 10

W: Please be quiet and listen to me because I want to tell you about the next class trip. We're going to a castle which we read about last week in our history lesson. Tell your parents they need to pay for the trip this week. It's five pounds altogether. That's three pounds for the ticket and the rest is for the transport. Our trip is on Saturday for we don't want you to miss a single school day. We're going by bus, so please get to school by 8:40 at the latest because the bus will arrive at 8:50 and leave in 20 minutes exactly. You don't need to bring paper or a pen, but you do need a camera. If you haven't got one, you can share with a friend. And while we're there, we're going to see a special show. The one about cars has just finished, and now there's one about clothes that's called Modana, M-O-D-A-N-A. It's very interesting to see what people wore hundreds of years ago. That's all. Now, any questions?
