Text 1

W: What are you doing this Saturday night? Lisa invited me to a party and said I could bring a friend.

M: I am going to see a movie with Mike that night. I'm free on Sunday.

Text 2

W: Good morning, Dr. Cruz.

M: Hello, Mrs. Moore. Who's your visitor?

W: Oh, this is my daughter Heather. She's a writer, and her husband is a teacher.

Text 3

W: I've never seen you in that shirt before. It looks fashionable.

M: Oh, I've had it for 2 years, but I don't wear it very often — it's a little tight on the shoulders.

W: The color suits you, though.

Text 4

W: Tom, I want to talk with you right now.

M: What's up?

W: You promised to hand in perfect homework, but it is full of mistakes.

Text 5

M: Mummy! Only 10 minutes left! I'm afraid I won't make it in time with such a jam! When the class begins, the door won't open until it is halfway through.

W: The traffic is clearing and we're on the most convenient and easiest way. The good thing is that we took a cab rather than a bus!

Text 6

M: Mum, do you remember you promised I could invite some friends for a picnic on Saturday?

W: Yes, of course. I've already done all the shopping for it. I've got burgers and sausages. And I've bought lots of salads, too.

M: Do you remember we wanted to have some pies as well?

W: I didn't buy any but I think we have some in the fridge. I'll just have a look. Hmm, well, we've got one pie, but I think I'd better get some more. I'll go to the supermarket tomorrow.

M: Thanks, Mum.

Text 7

W: Hello, it's Emma MacDonald here from AB Electronics. I'd like to book a room for the 25th please.

M: Certainly. Would you like a single or a double room?

W: A room for three please.

M: The room for three is $150 per night, including breakfast.

W: Oh... I see, but my company uses the hotel regularly. We normally get a discount.

M: Oh sorry, that will be $100 per night then, $ 120 with breakfast.

W: Oh, I don't want breakfast.

Text 8

W: Are you leaving for the railway station now, Jack? It's so early.

M: Just to avoid the rush-hour traffic. I don't want to be late.

W: So you have to wait for about two hours? I don't think there's scenery to look at.

M: Don't worry! I'll take a book with me.

W: It's too noisy to read at the railway station. I would usually look around the shops while waiting for the train.

M: But I've already got all the gifts for my parents and sisters. I don't need to buy anything. If I really can't focus on the book, I may phone up some friends I haven't talked to in a while.

W: That's a nice idea. Betty told me last time that she often spent the waiting time writing a to-do list so that she'd not miss anything in the days to come.

M: That's an awesome idea. I'll surely do that. Thank you, Judy. See you next year and have a good vocation.

W: Bye!

Text 9

W: Hello, this is TV-MK Studios. May I help you?

M: Hello, I'm Roy! I'm calling because I saw an ad in the school newspaper. It says there is some work available for a student who wants to work on your local news program.

W: Right. But do you know the student we want for the job is a volunteer? It's an unpaid job.

M: Oh, sure. I know that. I just want to gain some work experience.

W: Are you available on weekends? We are extremely busy at that time and need a hand.

M: Of course. I am free on weekends and I have no classes on Wednesday and Friday.

W: That's great! Well, do you major in media studies?

M: No, journalism. But I've taken some media studies and advertising courses.

W: I see. First you need to fill in an application form. Could you come here later this afternoon?

M: Of course.

W: That's great. Then you have to talk with Mr. Smith. He is in charge of the program.

M: I know, and actually I can't wait to see him.

W: Wish you good luck!

Text 10

M: Are you ready for some new adventures? I hope you guys didn't eat too much for dinner because tonight we're going to a dance studio and you may want to try some dancing. Like doing sports, you need to warm up and stretch before you dance. This will keep you from hurting yourself. Once you are warmed up, you're ready for some dancing. What kind of dance do you want to do? How about ballet? Ballet is a beautiful kind of dance, but it can be very difficult. If you want to be a good ballet dancer, you need to be very flexible. If ballet is too difficult for you, you could try jazz dance. Jazz dance is more relaxing than ballet. In ballet, you must hold your body in certain ways. With jazz dance, you can be a little freer. If you don't like jazz dance or ballet, you can try hip-hop dance. Hip-hop dance is the most popular kind of dance. In hip-hop dance, dancers have more choices of moves. Hip-hop dance combines different dance steps. Sometimes hip-hop dancers even use jazz steps or ballet steps in their dances. Dancing is a lot of fun. Visit a dance studio if you can and try some dancing!
