Unit 6 Section 1 Listening 2 and 3
Good morning, everyone! First, I’d like to tell you a little about myself: my name is
Li Jie, and I love trains. When I was seven, my parents took me on an amazing train
trip across China. After that trip, I began collecting toy train sets and started to read
books about trains. I think my interest comes from a wish to explore the world, but I’m also interested in train design.
My favourite train is the Fuxing high-speed train. It can go as fast as 350 kilometres
per hour! The design is really cool: it looks like a huge bullet. The inside of the train
looks great too. The seats are very comfortable, and passengers get lots of space to
stretch their legs.
The Fuxing trains started running in 2017. They are entirely designed and built in
China, and they are among the fastest trains in the world. Besides, China is now
home to the world’s largest high-speed train network! All these achievements were
the fruit of years of hard work by thousands of engineers. I really admire them.
I sometimes ask myself, “Will my love of trains just be a childhood hobby?” I really
hope not! I want to do well in school so that I can become an engineer when I grow
up. Then I can help design the trains of the future and make a contribution to the
development of our country!
Thank you! [the sound of clapping]
