M: Yes, please. I'm fine with these tall and wide boxes. They actually don't weigh that much. It's this small one full of books that I can't lift.

M: It depends on what you are writing. I am writing a short story, so I use long and short paragraphs for dramatic effect.

W: How do you make the perfect sandwich? It always looks so good.

M: I'll show you if you like. It's all about the presentation and using thick slices of bread.

W: Thank you. Let's go ahead! I made some bread this morning. It should be ready for use.

W: Your office looks good. You must have a good system for organizing everything. My office looks like something exploded inside it.

M: I put a new shelf in the corner for all my files. It makes a big difference.

M: No, I thought that was a hotel.

W: It is, but they have a gym as well. And they are offering a discount.

W: Well, the original cost is ￡30 a month, but now they are offering a 25% discount. You can also get a 10% discount at the hotel. I used it when my mom came to visit me last week. She loved it.

M: That's really good. My sister is due to visit me in a few months. She'd prefer staying in the hotel than sleeping on my floor.

W: Yeah. The canteen of the hotel is really nice, too. It has amazing breakfast. Obviously, you have to pay.

W: What's the matter, Will? Does your back hurt?

M: It's my shoulder. I fell off my motorcycle last week and hurt it.

M: But I have a new job. I have to go to the city every day now. I don't have a car, and I hate the subway, so I decided to buy a motorcycle.

W: Why not take the bus? Or even better — why not ride your bike?

M: Motorcycles save much time. I'll get back on my motorcycle as soon as my shoulder is better.

W: So you haven't been on the motorcycle again?

M: No, not yet.         

W: So, how do you get to work now?

M: A friend usually takes me in her car, but I go by bus a couple of times.

W: And is that OK?

M: Yes, it's nice actually. Sometimes I can talk to people, or I can read a book or newspaper. Most of the time I just look out of the window.

W: You know, Will, I think you should forget the motorcycle.

Would you like to adopt an animal? Although this sounds very unusual, some children have done  this. Brookfield Zoo has given people the chance to adopt animals by paying for all of their food for one year. One of the animals that needed parents was a young tiger named Shorty. People at the zoo said that it would cost about $900 a year for its food.

Not many boys and girls have $900 to spend. That's why several hundred children and grown-ups each have donated a little money to the zoo to help pay for Shorty's food. Some children donated only a quarter because that was all the money they had. Other children donated more money than that.

Since so many people have donated money to the zoo to help pay for Shorty's food, he is now able to eat as much as he wants. Shorty surely must be happy to know that he has so many  parents. Many children must  be proud to know that they have helped to feed him. It  will be really exciting for those children to go to the zoo to visit Shorty.
