M: I put your jacket in the bag. I thought it might be cold outside later.

W: That's good, but I need to run back inside anyway. I left my phone on the table.

W: What kind of wine will you have with your dinner? We have red and white wines available. There are some beers listed in the menu as well.

M: I'll actually pass on those drinks. I would rather have something sweet.

M: I was so scared that I was going to ruin the surprise. I had no idea that Jenny was coming in today. I wasn't prepared to talk to her.

W: I feel really bad about not telling her the truth. However, it will be worth it at her birthday party.

M: You always smile when you listen to classical music.

W: Yes, and I am not ashamed to say it helps me after a long day at the office.

M: It is very peaceful, and you have told me that being an architect is a very stressful job.

W: Remember: According to instructions, the oven needs to be turned down by 50 degrees after 20 minutes, or else the cake will become dry.

M: All right, it's been inside at 200 degrees for 10 minutes already. I'll lower the temperature before you get back.

听下面一段对话,回答第6至第7两个小题。现在你有10秒钟的时间阅读这两个小题。

M: Can you fill the water bottles on the shelf? The last customer bought 20 bottles so the refrigerator is empty.

W: Sure. But we are out of the large packs. We only have a half pack left. That is, there are only 24 bottles left.

M: That's fine. It's about 11:00 a.m. now. Maybe you should make a run to the store and pick up more. We could always use extra water bottles.

W: No. It will take me at least an hour to wait in line at the store. I'll go when it's not that busy around 1:00 p.m. That way I can help you here.

M: The city is full of smog today. I can't see the next building. I might ask if I can work at home.

W: That would be helpful. I have a lot to do today, so you could look after Lucy for a bit.

M: She doesn't need to be looked after. She does her own thing.

W: Yeah. I'm glad we got a cat and not a dog.  But she's been feeling unwell.

M: How do you know?

W: She's not eating her food, and has been sick a few times.

M: Well, let me phone Adrian and check if it's okay first.

W: If not, I can call Mary and ask her to look after Lucy. Or Barbara?

M: No, our daughter is busy with studies. I'm sure it will be okay.

听下面一段对话,回答第10至第12三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。

W: I don't think I'm going to find it. I've searched everywhere in the house for my watch. It's not on the table in my bedroom where I usually leave it. I honestly can't think of where else it could be.

M: Is that why you're out here? You think you left it in the yard?

W: Where else could it be? I only went between the house and the car yesterday. After Amy called and told me she wasn't coming over anymore, I decided to just relax inside all day. I've checked every room.

M: OK. Well, Amy just called up and said she is coming over. How about the three of us searching together?

W: That's a good idea. Three pairs of eyes are better than one. I will take a short break and think about the paths I traveled yesterday. Maybe I will remember something.

M: Good idea. While you do that, I will check the laundry. I hope it wasn't washed by accident. That would be a shame if it were ruined in the washing machine.

听下面一段对话,回答第13至第16四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。

M: For the town of Springfield, the most important new project is to build more parks and redesign the sports center.

W: We've added a lot of new public spaces and will continue to build more in the future. Also, I agree that we need to fix our sports facilities, but I'd also like to recommend that we decrease taxes.

M: We need tax money to build a better future for us so that the large groups of people can move into our town.

W: The number of residents here is decreasing! I think we should all reach an agreement  to make a priority instead of giving that power to local politicians.

M: I'd also like us to have a vote instead. On the list of issues, I'd like to create better parking near the mall.

W: I know that you live next to the shopping center. This is a good idea. I think increasing our police force should be our most important issue.

M: Safety is important, but improving the schools should be the first plan.

W: I disagree, but we should all vote on this. Secondly, we should continue stopping big companies from moving to the town.

M: We should promote small businesses instead. This creates more job opportunities.

W: Yes, and I also believe that in the future our small businesses will provide local workers with better and higher-paid jobs in Springfield.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。

W: I learned from a young age that the animal kingdom was an amazing place. I remember my teacher's lessons on different creatures in different environments. Mrs. Keller always spoke with enthusiasm about the different tools that each animal had developed to survive. However, what interested me most was the animals that helped one another. Certain animals form a bond that benefits both of them. For instance, there's a type of fish that attaches itself to sharks. The fish actually ride on the sharks as they go. They even eat the remaining food from the shark's meals. In return, when the shark isn't giving them a free meal, they clean the shark. The small fish eat away anything that would cause an infection in the shark. Isn't that amazing? What's even more amazing is that some animals have adapted to creating a bond with humans too. The "honey guide" is a bird that will lead humans to the insects that produce honey. The birds have learned to change their call when they find the insects. They do this specifically to warn humans in the area. Why, you ask? It's because the humans use smoke to make the insects calm down. The smoke sends the insects away from protecting the honey. This allows the birds to get the first taste of the honey as a reward. Facts like this are what make me love nature so much.
